Buchanan, who plays for the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs, a triple-A team under the Philadelphia Phillies, started Game 2 of the home game against Scranton/Wilkes Barre Leiliders under the New York Yankees on the 11th (Korea time), and recorded six hits (one home run), one walk, two strikeouts and four runs (three earned) in five innings. The team was replaced in the top of the sixth inning with a 6-4 lead, and Buchanan became the winning pitcher as the game ended as it was, recording nine wins (3 losses) of the season.
Buchanan, who started the first and second bases with a walk and a hit after two outs in the top of the first inning, caught No. 5 T.J. Rumfield with a line drive to the second base and finished the top of the second inning with a three-out and a hit by Cam Eden in the top of the third inning, but ended without a run by leading Jovit Vivas to a double play in front of shortstop.
Buchanan, who took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning with Ryan McKina's two-run double, was turned around in the top of the fourth inning. Buchanan, who sent out the leadoff batter due to an error, caught Oswald Peraza's ball himself and caught the second baseman at third base. However, he gave up his first run on a double by Rumfield, and soon after, Tyler Tramal hit a two-run shot over the right-center field, allowing him to turn the game around 2-3.
Fortunately, Lehigh Valley scored three points in the bottom of the fourth inning and succeeded in turning the game back to 5-3.
Buchanan was chased 5-4 in the top of the fifth when he allowed a run with two infield grounder after a double by leading Vivas.
Lehigh Valley scored one run on McCrun's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth inning to lead 6-4.
In the top of the sixth inning, Jacques Haque took the mound after Buchanan and allowed one hit and no run, and in the top of the seventh inning, he took the mound and allowed a double to leadoff hitter Eden, but later handled all three batters with infield ground balls to end the game.
Buchanan won nine games with the victory, tying for second place with multiple wins in the International League. The ERA is 4.87, which is not very good. He returned to the U.S. after shaking off Samsung's two-year contract to burn the last flame for the major leagues, but he is seeking a call-up in the minor leagues because he failed to sign a major contract, but has yet to make the big league stage.
Samsung's Denny Reyes, who replaced Buchanan, has a good 9-4 record with a 3.68 ERA in 22 games as of the 10th, and Conor Seabold also has a 9-5 record with a 3.75 ERA, so there is no room for Buchanan to return as a substitute.
