Kim Seo-young (30, Gyeongbuk Provincial Government)'s great challenge to reach the final round of the Olympics ended with regret.
In the women's 200m individual medley preliminary round at the 2024 Paris Olympics held at La Defense Arena in Paris, France on the 2nd (Korea time), Kim Seo-young failed to win a ticket to the semifinals by reaching 16 people, finishing 2:12:42, seventh in Group 5, and 17th overall. Kim Seo-young is the third Korean athlete to compete in four Olympics after Park Tae-hwan and Nam Yoo-sun, and Kim Seo-young is the second female athlete to compete in four consecutive Olympics after Park Tae-hwan. After winning the Olympic ticket, Kim Seo-young said, "This will be my last Olympics." He said, `I want to go to the finals in Paris and say goodbye to the Olympics with a smile.'
Kim Seo-young's 'Last Dance' was not smooth. Kim Seo-young passed the 50m with a time of 27.81 seconds and second place, raising expectations for her advance to the semifinals. The record for the 50m-100m section was 1:01.17 and was fourth overall. However, the pace gradually declined, dropping the 100m-150m section to 1:40:74 and 6th place, and eventually hit the touchpad with 2:12:42 and 5th place. It was far below the personal record of 2:08:34, set at the Jakarta-Palembang Asian Games in 2018.
