Romania regained the bronze medal in the women's mechanical gymnastics floor exercise at the 2024 Paris Olympics after a long struggle.
The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) accepts Romania's objection to the decision on the 11th (Korea time). The International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) ruled that the final ranking should be returned to its original position.
In the meantime, it is unusual for CAS to issue an immediate ruling.
The incident began on the 5th in the final round of the women's floor exercise in mechanical gymnastics at the 2024 Paris Olympics, held at the Versi Stadium in Paris, France.
Romania's Ana Barbois won the bronze medal with 13.700 points, including a difficulty of 5.8, a performance score of 8.000, and a penalty of 0.1 points. However, the U.S. protested that fifth-ranked Jordan Chiles needed to adjust his technical difficulties. The judges accepted it.
In other words, Chiles received a score adjustment. He jumped to third place with 13.766 points, and Barbois was naturally relegated to fourth place.
However, Rumani expressed outrage across the nation, including Prime Minister Martzel Chiolaku, and said he would not attend the closing ceremony of the Olympics in protest. The Romanian Gymnastics Association filed an appeal with CAS.
The core of the objection was a technical flaw in the U.S. objection process.
In the end, the CAS said that in accordance with Article 8.5 of the "FIG", the U.S. decision objections were not made within a minute??It ruled that the adjustment of the score on the door would be null and void. In the end, Romania was able to find its lost bronze medal in six days.
