Tottenham is surprised once again by the amount of money it has recruited striker Dominic Solanke (27) and again by the transfer fee it spent nine years ago recruiting Son Heung-min (32).

On the 10th (Korea time), Tottenham recruited Solanke (27), an English national striker who played for Bournemouth for a club record of 65 million pounds (about 113 billion won). It signed a six-year long-term contract until 2030.

To replace Harry Kane (31), who left for Bayern Munich last summer, he invested a large amount of money in recruiting Solanke, who scored 19 English Premier League (EPL) goals in the 2023-2024 season.

In 2019, midfielder Tanguy Ndombele (28, Nice), who played for Olympique Lyon, broke the record of 63 million pounds (current exchange rate of about 110 billion won) for the first time in five years. It is a glimpse of how great the need for recruiting a proven front-line striker was.

He has Brazilian striker Hishalisson (25) who has fallen to the third place in Tottenham's all-time transfer fee (60 million pounds, about 104 billion won), but Hishalisson has only scored a total of 12 goals (55 games) in the league due to injuries and sluggish performances in the past two seasons.

As a result, Tottenham manager Engie Postecoglou pulled out an anomalous lineup that placed winger Son Heung-min at the forefront last season.

Son Heung-min's transfer fee ranking in the team fell to 18th place at some point as Tottenham paid 'crazy transfer fee' one after another to recruit Ndombele, Hishalisson and Solanke.

Son Heung-min wore a Tottenham uniform for a transfer fee of 22 million pounds (about 38 billion won) from Leverkusen in 2015. At that time, Son Heung-min was ranked third in the team after Eric Lamela (30 million pounds, about 52 billion won) and Roberto Soldado (26 million pounds, about 45 billion won).

Meanwhile, Solanke, Ndombele, Hishalisson, Brennan Johnson, Christian Romero, James Maddison, Davinson Sanchez, Archie Gray, Pedro Porro, Mickey van de Penn, Moussa Sissoko, Giovanni Lo Celso, Dejan Kulusevski, Stephen Verwein and Sergio Reguilon entered Tottenham at a higher transfer fee than Son Heung-min.

But no one hit '22 million ' as much as Son Heung-min. Son Heung-min has scored 162 goals in 408 games, including the Cup, over the past nine years. He has written a tremendous history of advancing to the European Champions League final for the first time, finishing second in the Premier League, and becoming the first Asian EPL scorer.

Son Heung-min, who has scored double-digit points for eight consecutive seasons in the league since the 2016-2017 season, will try to win the double-digit score for nine consecutive seasons and the second time in his career in Tottenham's 10th season. There is a high possibility that Solanke will return to his original position as a left striker. Tottenham will play Leicester City in the league's opening away game on the 20th.
