Pohang coach Park Tae-ha started the rotation in the midst of a murderous schedule in which the league and the team had to be played simultaneously. A large number of new faces appeared in the five-back, including Choi Hyun-woong and Lee Kyu-baek.

Despite being an away game, Pohang launched a strong pressure and offensive from the beginning. Shanghai Shenhua sought a chance with its striker trio, who led the foreign league and FA Cup to four consecutive wins, but did not make a very impressive scene.

The first half was the atmosphere of Pohang. In the 30th minute of the first half, Pohang's second ball chance and Aspro's shot were caught by the opposing goalkeeper. Kim Jong-woo's sharp mid-range shot also hit the post in the 31st minute of the first half. Kang Hyun-je's half-beat fast shot hit the crossbar again in the 36th minute of the first half. Pohang dominated the game with a 56.7% share, with six shots and four effective shots, while Shanghai Shenhua had no shots. They finished the first half 0-0 without scoring a goal.

At the beginning of the second half, Pohang coach Park Tae-ha tried to change by putting in Eo Jung-won and Jung Jae-hee without Cho Sung-joon and Kang Hyun-je. Nine minutes into the second half, Pohang striker Giorgi stepped up as a troubleshooter. Ahn Jae-joon and Giorgi created chances by exchanging passes from the front line, and Giorgi, who received Ahn Jae-joon's pass, shook the net by pushing a desperate right foot shot into the right corner of the net. Pohang led 1-0.

Pohang did well until the 15th minute of the second half against powerhouse Shanghai Shenhua in an away match in China. Giorgi, who scored two goals in the league and one goal in the Korea Cup, cheered enthusiastically as he scored his debut goal on the first stage of the Asian Champions League elite. However, a crisis came shortly after Choi Hyun-woong's shot, which followed Eo Jung-won's cross in the 17th minute of the second half, was slightly out

Shanghai Sunhwa, who couldn't hit a decent shot until the 15th minute of the second half, revealed her claws and gave up an equalizer in the 19th minute of the second half. Pohang goalkeeper Lee Seung-hwan blocked Tesseira's sharp shot with a punch, but failed to block Andre Luiz's header following Feinandu's cross that followed immediately. 1-1. After the equalizer, Shanghai Shenhua's offensive quickly heated up.

Choi Hyun-woong, a defender born in 2003, who played as a starter for the first time in a long time since the league's Jeju match in March, was replaced by Min Sang-ki in the 23rd minute of the second half, complaining of muscle spasms. However, in the 25th minute of the second half, two minutes later, Sipus Mallet, who was replaced, allowed a clothesline-like come-from-behind goal.

In the 28th minute of the second half immediately after allowing the come-from-behind goal, Pohang expressed its will to score the equalizer by excluding Ahn Jae-joon and putting in 'Speed Racer'Kim In-sung. In the 32nd minute of the second half, Pohang Lee Tae-seok received a yellow card for a tackle on Angersi-yang rushing into the box and allowed a free kick in the dangerous area on the right side of the gate. The set piece was not powerful, but a penalty was declared following a VAR decision that Amadou's shot hit Kim In-sung's arm. I was terribly unlucky. In the 37th minute of the second half, Malere easily scored a PK, and Shanghai Shenhua ran 3-1.

Immediately after the third goal, Pohang tried to reorganize the line by putting Kim Dong-jin instead of Lee Tae-seok, but as the atmosphere went on, the Pohang defense line collapsed. In the 39th minute of the second half, Gaotien added momentum by pushing a fast shot with his left foot. It was pushed back by 1-4 and 3 goals, and it was not enough to turn the game around. Pohang, which aimed to turn around on the Asian stage after losing six consecutive league games, recorded its first loss in the first Asian Champions League elite game.
