"If the chairman holds out, Korean soccer will be cut further."

On the 24th, the Culture, Sports and Tourism Committee (Culture Committee) asked a question about the recent controversy surrounding the Korea Football Association, the Korea Sports Council, and the Korea Badminton Association at the National Assembly.

Kim Seung-soo, a member of the People's Power Committee, sternly warned Chung Mong-kyu, president of the Korea Football Association.

"Do you think (criticizing) public opinion will subside if (the national team) performs well?" asked Kim Seung-soo.

Chairman Chung Mong-gyu replied, `I don't think so.'

"Do you think public opinion is weaker now than after the World Cup in Brazil?" said Kim Seung-soo.

Chairman Chung Mong-gyu said, `There are a lot of issues about the appointment of various directors, expectations for foreign directors, and whether it is wrong or whether the procedure is wrong by selecting domestic directors..," he said, blurring his words.

Kim Seung-soo said, `The anger did not come this far due to the accumulation of one or two. They say they are not aware of why (fans) are calling for the resignation of the chairman. I think it's bigger now (than right after the World Cup in Brazil). If it is difficult for a coach to demonstrate leadership, isn't it (Chairman Chung Mong-gyu's idea) that there is only a replacement?"

Chairman Chung Mong-gyu replied, `Clinsman did so.'

Kim Seung-soo urged Chairman Chung Mong-kyu to make a decision.

Kim Seung-soo said, `If the chairman holds out, Korean soccer will be cut further. I think there is a high possibility of a very disgraceful resignation as the efforts devoted to Korean soccer have gone up in smoke overnight. I urge you to make a decision,' he said, virtually calling for his resignation.

Chairman Chung Mong-kyu also declined to comment on his bid for a fourth consecutive term.

Chairman Chung Mong-kyu said, `We will carefully open up all possibilities for the development of soccer and make a decision after careful consideration. In the end, he did not affirm or deny, saying, "Wouldn't history evaluate it?"

In addition, Chairman Chung Mong-gyu and head coach Hong Myung-bo were convinced that there was no problem with the process of appointing the national team coach.

Culture, Sports and Tourism Minister Yoo In-chon said, `Procedural matters are very important. I'm doing my thanks. I will make a presentation on this part on October 2nd. Point out what's wrong, and the future will have to be decided by the federation after that."

Cho Gye-won (Democratic Party of Korea), a member of the Culture and Sports Committee, directed Hong Myung-bo at the director "It is said that he was appointed by legal procedures, but if it is decided that he was appointed by unfair procedures (what would you do)?"I asked.

Director Hong Myung-bo said, `I don't think it's unfair. The World Cup qualifying round is just around the corner. I think it is my duty to make the team strong for the rest of the year and perform well in the World Cup," he replied.

Member Cho Kye-won said, "(Fans' opposition) influenced the national team's morale and performance. I'm afraid there will be problems such as a drop in morale."

Director Hong Myung-bo said, `I will do my best as a director," he replied.

Member Cho Kye-won pressed "If unfair procedures are confirmed, we should make it clear that we intend to resign."

Chairman Chung Mong-gyu also said, `I don't think there is any illegality. It is not desirable for the personnel process to be discussed. I don't think dissecting each person individually is a desirable personnel practice. If it's procedurally wrong, I'll be pointed out and make improvements," he replied.
