Hong Myung-bo, head coach of the South Korean national football team, conducted an interview with FIFA and was confident of advancing to the World Cup finals.

FIFA released an interview with Coach Hong Myung-bo on its official website on the 21st (Korea time).

Coach Hong Myung-bo said he believed South Korea would be the strongest in Asia and stressed the need to stick to its traditional color.

FIFA introduced Hong Myung-bo as the head coach who advanced Ulsan HD of the K League to the Club World Cup.

FIFA said Hong Myung-bo, a true legend of Korean soccer, had a lot to celebrate five months ago. Ulsan, which he was in charge of, advanced to the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 in the United States. But he won't sit on the Ulsan bench next year. He explained that he accepted the offer to coach the South Korean national team in early July.

Hong said "It was an honor to be in charge of one of the major Asian clubs. We did our best to become the best team in Asia. The players and the whole club were able to succeed as one. The Club World Cup is an opportunity to show the world how good Korean soccer is. It will also affect the national team."

Coach Hong Myung-bo said, `It has not always been easy for us to get to the World Cup. The trip to the Middle East is always tricky, but I am confident that we will be one of the best teams in Asia."

He pointed out that we shouldn't miss out on our own while keeping up with the trend.

Coach Hong said, `Football changes quickly. It's not just in Asia. It is important that we keep pace with those changes, but it is also important to establish and adhere to our own football philosophy. This includes not only the technical aspects, but also the spiritual and cultural aspects."

Then "Our main goal now is to advance to the 2026 World Cup in North and Central America. Our players certainly have the ability to compete not only in Asia but also around the world. What I think is important is to allow players to prepare for games in an appropriate environment based on our country's unique soccer culture."

South Korea only drew 0-0 with Palestine in the first round of the third World Cup qualifying round, but succeeded in turning the mood by catching Oman 3-1 in the second round. Two consecutive away games in Jordan and home games in Iraq will be held in October. In the third qualifying round, five countries will play a full league and go straight to the finals to the second place in the group, while the third and fourth places will head to the fourth qualifying round.
