In the men's single free skating competition in the second round of the 2024-2025 International Skating Union Junior Grand Prix held in Ostrava, Czech Republic on the 7th (Korea time), Seo Min-gyu received 74.58 points in technical score (TES) and 73.12 points in artistic score (PCS) and a total of 147.70 points. Seo Min-gyu, who ranked third with 77.08 points in the short program the previous day, came from behind to win, beating Patrick Blackwell of the U.S. (221.56 points) by 3.22 points with 224.78 points in total.
Seo Min-kyu was the first Korean man to win a gold medal at the Junior World Championships in March, drawing attention as the successor of ace Cha Jun-hwan (Korea University).
In the first Grand Prix series, he showed his skills with a strong mentality. The first task, the triple axel-double toe loop combination jump, scored 1.83 points in performance (GOE), and also received an additional 1.37 points in the second task, the triple axel. In the subsequent landing of the triple loop jump, 1.33 points were deducted, but the triple flip-triple toe-loop combination jump was successful to overcome the crisis, and the second half jump task, which has 10% additional points, also won the gold medal by treating triple flip-double axel sequence jumps and triple salco jumps as clean except for the triple lutz long edge decision.
