It was actually the end of an era. Starting with Ronaldo's award in 2008, the two players have split their positions at the Ballon d'Or Awards for many years. Meanwhile, the name of the Korean player could not be found in the list of 30 candidates for the Ballon d'Or. Seol Ki-hyun in 2002 and Park Ji-sung in 2005, Kim Min-jae in 2023, and Son Heung-min in 2022 and 2019 were selected as candidates for the Ballon d'Or. The Ballon d'Or candidate included a number of names of players who participated in the Euro 2024 final held earlier. A total of 12 players from Spain and England accounted for the majority.
Three players are considered the most likely candidates. They are Vinicius Junior (Brazil), Jude Bellingham (England), and Rodri (Spain) of Manchester City.
Vinicius is most highly regarded for his credit for leading Real to the European Champions League, and Bellingham also finished his first season of Real brilliantly and contributed to England's advance to the Euro final. Rodri is a favorite for the award due to his tremendous performance in Manchester City and his influence on Spain's Euro victory.
The winners of the 2024 Ballon d'Or will be announced on October 28 in French local time.
