The date and venue of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) awards ceremony and conference scheduled in Seoul at the end of October have been confirmed. The Korea Football Association announced on the 12th that the AFC Annual Awards 2023 will be held at the Peace Hall at Kyung Hee University's Seoul Campus on the 29th of next month. The conference, attended by the secretaries and presidents of member countries and regional associations, will be held at the Conrad Hotel in Yeouido for three days from Oct. 30 to Nov. 1. This is the first time that an AFC awards ceremony or conference will be held in Korea.
In December last year, the AFC decided to host the award ceremony and conference to be held in 2024 at the executive committee. In particular, it attracts attention that the two events that have been held separately are held in one place in a row. AFC officials confirmed the detailed schedule and location after several due diligence this year.
The AFC Awards, which marks its 30th anniversary this year, is the most prestigious event in Asian soccer. In the past, the AFC hosted annual events in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where the AFC headquarters are located. Recently, it has been held alternately in AFC member states in line with the purpose of 'Fest of All Asian Countries'. Last year, it was held in Doha, Qatar.
The official English name of this year's award ceremony is 'AFC Annual Awards Seoul 2023'. Since the winners are determined by performance and performance awards from the second half of last year to the first half of this year, the name includes the year before the year of the event.
At the awards ceremony, the men's and women's players, youth players, leaders, referees, associations, and achievement awards will be presented, as well as 'International Player of the Year' won by Kim Min-jae (Bayern Munich) last year. The number of people expected to attend is about 600.
The AFC Conference, which will be held for three days from the day after the awards ceremony, is an event where Asian soccer leaders and experts gather to discuss various current issues in Asian soccer, discuss agendas for soccer development, and conduct mutual exchange programs. About 200 people will participate, including the president of the Member Associations of 47 Asian member countries, the president of regional associations under AFC, the secretary-general, and invited guests. Last year, it was held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
The Korea Football Association said "I think it is very meaningful that the two most prestigious and meaningful events in Asian soccer will be held in Korea this time." We expect it to be a good opportunity to enhance the international status of Korean soccer and expand its diplomatic power.'
