It looks like a superficial failure. However, it is still 'Half Success'.

2024 Woori Bank Park Shin-ja Cup held at Asan Yi Sun-shin Gymnasium. All six Korean women's professional basketball teams failed to advance to the finals.

She couldn't get over the wall of Japanese women's basketball. Last season's champion Fujitsu and powerhouse Toyoda clashed for 30 million won in prize money in the final.

Fujitsu won 82-70 against BNK in the semifinals on the 7th. Toyoda beat Hana Bank 75-53.

This was the result of a clear difference in the level of women's basketball between Korea and Japan.

The Park Shin-ja Cup underwent a major reorganization last year. Until now, the Park Shin-ja Cup has been a competition venue for second-class players from each team with abundant potential. However, the WKBL (Korea Women's Professional Basketball Federation) upgraded the Park Shin-ja Cup to 'International Competition'.

It invited strong Japanese women's professional basketball players and recruited national teams from Australia, the Philippines, and Taiwan and the strongest teams. With full strength, six domestic teams were also allowed to play. Through external competition, 'Open Policy' was implemented.

There was a complex calculation that it would catch the eyes of women's basketball fans with big events that raised the level of Korean women's basketball, which is stagnating every season, and increased the size of the tournament. It was a big decision, and there was a big feature.

The result is unfortunate. In last year's competition, Woori Bank advanced to the final. However, it was blocked by Japanese powerhouse Toyoda. Toyoda was the champion of the newly renewed Park Shin-ja Cup 'Invitation'.

He also failed to advance to the final this season. The tournament, which will be held at home for the second consecutive year, has become the stage for Japanese women's basketball.

However, the positive part that WKBL intended is still valid. With high-quality performance, the eye level of women's basketball fans in Korea has been met. Moreover, witnessing the development of Japanese women's basketball, it also planted a stimulus system for players from six teams.

Most managers of the six clubs `definitely have different basic skills and levels of Japanese top players. It's a lot of stimulation for the players."

The physical conditions of Japan and Korea are similar. However, the power of 'Core', the level of technology based on solid basics, practical application skills, and creative play are certainly high.

It was a 'Park Shinja Cup' that vividly tells the way for Korean women's basketball to develop.

In early September, six women's basketball teams were lacking strong practice opponents. Playing Fujitsu and Toyoda, Hitachi, and Taiwan's strongest Keisei Life with 'Full Power', it was a good opportunity to naturally strengthen strong training and organizational skills in the offseason. In unison, all the coaches of the six clubs were able to see the strengths and weaknesses of our team at the Park Shin-ja Cup. It was a good opportunity."

On the surface, six domestic clubs failed to win the cup for the second consecutive year. He didn't even make it to the finals this year. Therefore, it may be prematurely concluded that it is a failure. However, results consistent with the significance and long-term goals of hosting the upgraded Park Shin-ja Cup, which WKBL decided to do, continue to emerge. In the long run, rather, there is a very positive effect.

However, there is light and shadow. It is regrettable that some clubs responded to the Park Shin-ja Cup.

Some clubs have not been at full capacity. This atmosphere was detected just before the competition. He put forward an internal policy of limiting the playing time to some of the national team players who played in the preliminary qualifying round for the Women's World Cup in Mexico City, Mexico, and eventually used the 1.5th team while watching 'Witness' for preventing injury and exposure to power. The team's ace was finally excluded from the entry for dubious reasons, not specific injuries, and the playing time of the national team and senior players was strictly limited.

Hana Bank, which advanced to the semifinals, trailed by 21 points in the first half as it played a large number of bench members in the second quarter. In fact, the victory or defeat was decided here. BNK had the power of new players, but Park Hye-jin, who was brought to FA, was absent. Samsung Life Insurance, which is considered to have the best squad this season, also failed to fully operate in the preliminary round.

The gap with Fujitsu and Toyota widened further as the six clubs with lower classes did not engage in all-out wars. During the all-out war, he blew away the 'golden chance' that allowed him to examine the power of his organization and core.

Women's professional basketball teams play only 30 regular league games. It's a very scarce number. Last season's regular league ended on March 1 and the playoffs on March 31 this year. There was an off-season period of more than seven months.

However, some clubs say that most veteran players are still not in normal condition due to injuries and cannot afford to operate their full power. It's an incomprehensible situation.

Hidden here are the characteristics of the parent company, which is mostly a banking sector, and internal principles such as 'double-edged sword'. The women's professional basketball team, which is not popular, has become a rival to a major banking group. There is room for funds, and investment for team power is actively made. It's a positive part. However, there are two aspects of team management. In a professional, grades are the most important value. However, the core goal of the banking parent company is 'Doesn't make the squad gossip or get into an accident?' Of course, it is a true principle, but it is dragged around by this principle.

A more important value than performance is 'smooth team operation without accidents'. In reality, it flows in a direction that prefers a coach who maintains a smooth relationship with the team even if the amount of training is reduced rather than a leader who teaches basketball well. Such a value conflict encourages the phenomenon of 'down equalization' of women's professional basketball in reality.

It is a women's basketball system that does not have a wide base and goes straight from high school to professional. Unlike Japan, newcomers who are not properly equipped with basic skills in amateur basketball do not perform much training to improve their skills even in professional basketball.

This is because the departure of the player achieves a dramatic compromise on the amount of training due to the perception of the parent group in the banking sector that it is an 'accident' or a scratch.

The reason for the gradual reduction to 40 regular league games, 35 games, and 30 games was also adjusted for incomprehensible reasons such as 'Prevention of Injury by Players'. The only league in the world that reduces the number of regular league games is Korean women's professional basketball.

In the end, the dramatic development of the newcomers' skills is not achieved. With basic skills still lacking, the amount of off-season training is also insufficient??Therefore, there is a gap in skills with Japan every season.Of course, Japan doesn't do much team training. However, the amount of individual training is incomparable because exceptional players in amateurs choose professionals.) In addition, the banking clubs have a strong sense that they only need to perform well in the regular league and playoffs rather than the overall development of women's basketball. Eventually, the idea that some clubs can hide their power in the Park Shin-ja Cup and perform well in the regular league and playoffs grows.

In addition, some clubs have refrained from using 'full power', and some clubs say 'full power', but the players are not properly prepared 'full power'.
