The WBSC (World Baseball Softball Federation) officially announced on the 10th (Korea time) the disciplinary action related to the Under-23 Baseball World Cup. Korean national team infielder Kim Doo-hyun of the KIA Tigers will be suspended for one game and Venezuela's Hidalgo Medina will be suspended for four games.
The situation occurred in the match between Korea and Venezuela on the 9th. The top of the seventh inning when Korea was losing 4-6. Batter Medina walked and reached first base, then advanced to second base when the subsequent batter hit. And in the process of the next batter attempting a sacrifice bunt, Medina dug from second base to third base.
That's when the incident happened. Medina's tackle was too dangerous to get into third base. He slid toward the third base and made a dangerous sliding that accurately shot Kim Doo-hyun's ankle, which entered the third base cover to be safe. And Kim Doo-hyun's accurate catch eventually led Medina to be out.
However, Kim Doo-hyun, who was in considerable pain due to a rough tackle, collapsed for a while and complained of pain, then punched Medina in the side, who was lying down, maybe angry. Then, soon, an enraged Medina stood up, clenched her fist and flew it toward Kim Doo-hyun's face. There was a hand-to-hand war. Immediately, the third base referee held Medina and tried to hold her back, but bench clearing occurred in which the teams of both teams poured out to the ground soon.
Kim Doo-hyun, who was almost injured by Medina's dangerous non-manner sliding, couldn't hold back his anger, and it happened even more as Medina clenched her fist and rushed toward her face with excitement. Kim Doo-hyun, who hit his opponent first, was also banned from playing in the match against Nicaragua on the 10th as he was suspended for one game, and Medina was given a much heavier punishment than Kim Doo-hyun due to his four-game suspension.
Meanwhile, South Korea lost to Venezuela 4-8 on the same day and will face Nicaragua on the 10th.
