Ulsan lost 0-4 to Yokohama Marinos in the second leg of the 2024-2025 Asian Football Confederation Champions League Elite (ACLE) League Stage at Yokohama International Stadium in Japan on the 2nd.
Ulsan lost to Kawasaki Frontale 0-1 in the first game and was desperate for its first win of the tournament. Yokohama was also humiliated by South Korea's Gwangju FC 3-7 in the first game. In the end, Yokohama caught Ulsan and succeeded in solving the anger.
Ulsan coach Kim Pan-gon vowed to do well, but he had no choice but to swallow his disappointment.
Coach Kim Pan-gon said in a pre-official press conference held on the 1st, `I'm happy to play against Yokohama. It is the strongest team in the J-League. I'm excited and looking forward to it. Yokohama can produce good results in this tournament. It's not easy, but I'll play with confidence" he said.
Coach Kim Pan-gon took the helm of Ulsan as a replacement for A national team coach Hong Myung-bo. In Korea, Ulsan, which had been shaking, was quickly settled. He returned to the top of the K League 1 and advanced to the final of the Korea Cup. However, even though it is in the beginning, it is not as strong as it is on the Asian stage.
Manager Kim said "I took over the team in the middle of the season. I'm continuing to make the team's character. In the process of creating an offensive philosophy, the players are following well. Every game, we keep getting what we want," he said in a positive light.
Cho Hyun-woo, the national team's goalkeeper who attended the press conference as a representative of the players, also said, `I don't think much about the last game. The upcoming game is more important. We prepared with good coaches, staff and players. I will play a great game at the stadium tomorrow."
When the lid was lifted, the game went unilaterally.
Ulsan scored the first goal in the fourth minute of the first half and was dragged around. He allowed an additional goal at the end of the first half, making the second half 0-2.
Ulsan tried to turn the tables by putting in Joo Min-kyu and Lee Chung-yong.
However, in the 38th minute of the second half, he was attacked by a counterattack and scored a wedge goal, which dampened his will to chase. Ulsan dropped its head by allowing one more goal in the second half of extra time.
Meanwhile, Gwangju FC ranks first in the middle with two consecutive wins in the East Asian league stage, which lasted until the second game. Pohang fell to eighth place with one win and one loss, and Ulsan fell to 12th place, the lowest with two losses.
