The 2nd National Basketball Competition, hosted by the Ministry of Education and organized by the School Sports Promotion Association (Chairman Kang Eun-hee), was held in Sangju, Gyeongsangbuk-do from the 5th to the 6th.

The competition, which involved 38 teams and 500 elementary and middle school students across the country, was different from the existing competition in two ways. The first was that the competition was held in the form of a 'mixed team' where ordinary students and student-athletes formed a team or two or more school students gathered to form a team rather than a single school.

Yongsan Middle School, a prestigious basketball school in Seoul, participated in a team of general students and students from the basketball department, and several schools with basketball departments from all over the country formed teams with general students to participate. In addition, pure school sports club students participated in the attempt without a basketball team. In addition, students from two or more schools in each city and province formed a team to participate under the name 'Shido Alliance', and a total of seven teams participated by forming a city and province alliance team.

The second feature of this competition is that all players participated in the game without exception. In normal sports games, it is common for candidates to stay on the bench and only the main players to play. However, this tournament requires all players who participate in the tournament to play at least one quarter out of the fourth quarter of each game. In addition, no matter how good the performance is, it is not allowed to play more than three quarters.

The purpose of this competition is to change the sports culture in which the team is run around a small number of players who are good at it, and to achieve a student sports culture in which everyone can participate and gain satisfaction.

As a result, a team with good skills of all players performed better than a team composed of a few outstanding players. In fact, not only the students but also the general students were able to win the title in the men's elementary school division 'Daegu Federation (9 general students and 4 student athletes)' and the men's middle school division 'Gangwon Federation (9 general students and 4 student athletes).

Kwon Ji-hoon, a student player at Pyeongwon Middle School who won the MVP award for playing for the Gangwon Union, said, `The coach, coach, and my regular students who participated together prepared well as a team to participate in the competition, and I am grateful and honored to receive the MVP award thanks to my team members.' Lee Hyun-seo, a general student at Budeul Middle School who belonged to the same team, said, `It was a meaningful time because there were so many things to learn from the student players, and thank you for enjoying the game together. I hope there will be another opportunity like this next time."

The Ministry of Education expects that the competition will not only provide opportunities for mutual understanding and cooperation by teaming up with ordinary students and student-athletes, but also contribute greatly to the development of school sports clubs and the growth of students. This type of competition began on a trial basis last year and will be held this year with the addition of handball events.

Lee Min-pyo, secretary-general of the School Sports Promotion Association, said, `We hope that through this competition, students will be able to develop their basketball skills and build pleasant memories such as cooperation and respect among each other as well as developing their personalities.'
