Choi Won-tae's first postseason try for the LG Twins' 'Preliminary FA' was postponed to the next opportunity.
Choi Won-tae started in Game 3 of the semi-playoff against KT Wiz at KT Wiz Park in Suwon on the 8th, but was withdrawn after failing to pass the third inning. He allowed five hits, one walk, four strikeouts and three runs (two earned) in two ⅔ innings.
Choi Won-tae had 9 wins, 7 losses and a 4.26 ERA this season. In the game against KT, he pitched stably with two wins, no losses, and an ERA of 3.50 in three games, so he was selected as the starter for Game 3.
Choi Won-tae, who moved from Kiwoom as a winning contractor last year, was humiliated by being replaced without finishing the first inning in the second game of the Korean Series last year, but in fact, he has never been a winning pitcher in the postseason. He took the mound in a total of 15 games, including wild cards, semi-POs, POs, and Korean Series, with only one loss, one save and three holds.
Choi Won-tae, who may be considered weak in big games, will become the first FA in his life after the Korean Series, so he needs to play in the postseason, where everyone is watching.
The bottom of the first inning was good. Choi Won-tae, who handled the lead Rojas with a ground ball in front of the second base, allowed a double on the left-field line that was missed by Kang Baek-ho, but got off to a good start by striking out Jang Sung-woo and Oh Jae-il, the third and fourth, with consecutive swings and misses.
Park Dong-won's solo shot in the top of the second inning led 1-0, but allowed a tie at the bottom of the second inning. It was due to an error. After allowing Kim Sang-soo to make an infield hit, he was hit by Bae Jeong-dae, and Kim Sang-soo ran to third base, and while the ball was relayed to third base, Bae Jeong-dae ran to second base. Third baseman Moon Bo-kyung's throw to second base fell back and Kim Sang-soo homered to tie the score 1-1. In the crisis of the third base with one out, Shim Woo-joon and Jung Joon-young were treated as consecutive outfield flies to prevent additional runs.
Coach Yeom Kyung-yeop made a quick decision as he became anxious at the end of the third inning. Choi Won-tae, who gave a walk to the lead Rojas, struck out Kang Baek-ho, but faced a heavy hit by Jang Sung-woo, putting him on the verge of a crisis with one out and runners on first and third bases. Oh Jae-il's sacrifice fly to right field is tied at 2-2. He was replaced by Son Joo-young when Hwang Jae-kyun hit left-handed and reached the first and second bases with two outs.
Choi Won-tae's runs increased to three points as Son Joo-young hit a left-handed hit by Kim Sang-soo and Jang Sung-woo homered.
Choi Won-tae, who threw a total of 65 balls, threw 19 fastballs with a maximum speed of 147km and 11 pitch-seam, and sprayed 20 sliders, 8 curves, and 7 change-ups.
