LG Twins' Lim Chan-kyu took one step to advance to the playoffs with his first postseason quality start in Game 5.
Lim Chan-kyu started Game 5 of the semi-playoff against KT Wiz at Jamsil Stadium on the 11th and recorded his first postseason quality start after his debut with three hits, two walks, four strikeouts and one run in six innings. Since the team is leading 3-1, it also has requirements for a winning pitcher. If he wins, Lim Chan-kyu will be responsible for two of his team's three wins.
Lim Chan-kyu started in Game 2 and became a winning pitcher with seven hits, no four outs, four strikeouts, and two runs (one earned run) in five ⅓ innings. Lim Chan-kyu won his first postseason start since his debut. He has been weak in the postseason. In the regular season, he consistently started as a starting pitcher, but in the postseason, his position was often changed to an intermediate pitch. He pitched nine ⅔ innings in six postseason games, one win (saving win) and a 6.52 ERA.
Since last year, he has definitely opened his eyes to his pitches. It is not a fastball, but he pitched a seasoned pitch that makes the fastball look relatively fast by mixing it properly with changeups, curves, and sliders, and as a result, he recorded the most wins for domestic pitchers with 14 wins. It led LG to win the regular league and the Korean Series, and even signed an FA contract of up to 5 billion won for four years after the season. And although he slowed down due to injury this season, he won 10 games and posted double-digit wins for the first two consecutive years of his career.
He pitched very stable with three wins, no losses and an ERA of 2.70 in four games against KT this season, and good pitching continued in big games. He lost the first game and needed to win the second game, but Lim Chan-kyu won with good pitching, which gave him more confidence. In an interview after winning the second game, Lim Chan-kyu said "I think I can change my fall career with this game."
Lim Chan-kyu, who threw 92 balls in the first game and came out after four days of rest, was still stable.
The start was important because it was a big game, but he blocked it well with three outs in the top of the first inning. Leader Kim Min-hyuk continued to foul and continued to play, but struck out swinging with a 114km falling curve in the seventh pitch. Rojas was caught with a fly to left field, and Jang Sung-woo was caught with a fly to left field with a changeup on the sixth pitch from the full count.

In the top of the third inning, he allowed No. 8 Oh Yoon-seok to hit right-center after one out, but he caught Shim Woo-joon with a fly to center field and caught Kim Min-hyuk with a weak second baseman line drive.
A situation where the top of the fourth inning with a 3-0 lead can meet the top batting line and become a crisis. However, Lim Chan-kyu struck out Rojas, caught Jang Sung-woo with a fly to left field, and Kang Baek-ho with a fly to left field, putting LG's atmosphere to rest with a clean three-way exit.
After two outs in the top of the fifth inning, he gave up a walk to Bae Jeong-dae after a full count match. Lim Chan-kyu, who had no walk in the second game, was allowed to walk for the first time in the semi-PO. Perhaps that's why catcher Park Dong-won took the mound in an unusual way and talked with Lim Chan-kyu. Oh Yoon-seok then hit a strong ball toward the third base line, but Moon Bo-kyung caught it and sprayed it long to first base. By the fifth inning, he had 68 pitches.
As the top of the sixth inning began, Son Joo-young began to warm up in the LG bullpen. It means I'll change it when there's a crisis.
However, Lim Chan-kyu continued to advance toward his first quality start after his postseason debut. Shim Woo-joon, the first No. 9, was grounded out in front of the second base and Kim Min-hyuk struck out swinging. Son Joo-young, who was warming up after two outs, pulled out. Rojas also grounded out to the second base to complete a quality start with six scoreless innings.
Lim Chan-kyu, who also came up in the top of the seventh inning, allowed the lead Jang Sung-woo to hit left-handed. Son Joo-young started warming up again, and Lim Chan-kyu played against Kang Baek-ho. He threw two strikes in a row in 3B to play a full count match, but the ball fell in the sixth pitch and walked. When the crisis of the first and second bases came, it was eventually replaced by Son Joo-young. Son Joo-young gave up a walk to Hwang Jae-kyun and was loaded with no outs, but he gave up only one run with an infield grounder to Bae Jeong-dae. Lim Chan-kyu's loss became one point.
Lim Chan-kyu, who threw 89 balls, threw 33 fastballs with a maximum speed of 146km and threw 35 more changeups. 16 curves and 5 sliders were added to this.
