A national team coach Hong Myung-bo introduced the starting list ahead of the third Group B match against Jordan in the third Asian qualifying round for the 2026 North-China World Cup at Amman International Stadium in Amman, Jordan, at 11 p.m. on the 10th (Korea time).
In the match against Jordan, where Son Heung-min, the captain and key striker, was eliminated due to a hamstring injury, veteran goaltender Joo Min-kyu (Ulsan) will start.
The second line of attack was set up by Lee Kang-in Lee Jae-sung (Mines) and Hwang Hee-chan (Wolverhampton). Lee Kang-in is an opposite-footed winger located on the right side, playing a role in shaking the opponent's defense, and versatile Lee Jae-sung is expected to balance the attack in the center. Hwang Hee-chan, who has excellent breakthrough ability, plans to target the back space of the opponent's defense as a direct replacement for Son Heung-min.
All-weather midfielder Hwang In-beom (Feyenoord) and defensive midfielder Park Yong-woo (Al-Ain) will form a partnership in the midfield, while Seol Young-woo (Trvenazvezda), Cho Yoo-min (Sharjah), and Kim Min-jae (Ulsan) will set up a four-back. Cho Hyun-woo (Ulsan) will wear goalkeeper gloves.
After drawing 0-0 with Palestine in the first leg of the third World Cup qualifying round in September, the national team won 3-1 with Son Heung-min's winning goal in Oman in the second leg. He tied Jordan with one win, one draw, and four points, but was in second place with one goal short of scoring multiple points. If he beats Jordan on the day, he can take the lead in the group.
The game on this day has a strong concept of revenge. South Korea failed to win the Qatar Asian Cup semifinal in February after losing to Jordan 0-2.
