'Manchester United native' Jesse Lingard (32, FC Seoul) stressed that he will not stay in the K-League for only one season and will try to leave a legacy such as winning.

In a column for the British daily The Times on the 12th (local time), Lingard detailed why he chose Korea (Seoul), what happened during his hiatus, and what he wanted to leave in the K-League. Although he appeared on an entertainment program last month, this is the first time he has talked about such an honest story since entering the K League in February. He said, `I hope my story will help other players overcome their personal difficulties.'

First of all, Lingard revealed the reason why he had a hard time in the 2022-2023 season at Nottingham Forest, the last club in the English Premier League (EPL). Lingard, who had a high playing bonus, did not play enough due to the Nottingham club's concerns about the league's profitability and sustainability rules (PSR) and continued knee and Achilles tendon injuries. "Injuries affected my deceleration ability. It wasn't easy to unfold my style of play, such as running to an empty space and then stopping and changing directions."

My grandmother's condition worsened when she left Nottingham due to the expiration of her contract in the summer of 2023. Lingard, who had an unforgettable time, including taking care of his grandparents he raised when he was young, said he had prepared to return to the ground in earnest after Christmas. "I did hard training twice a day in Dubai. I didn't drink a drop of alcohol and only focused on soccer." Lingard, who wanted a team that loves and recognizes me, confessed that he made a surprise decision to go to Seoul after meeting with two Seoul officials in Manchester. "A new environment, a new culture, and these ideas stimulated my mind. Seoul is one of the biggest clubs in the K League, and it was a team with a great stadium. I immediately accepted the offer."

Lingard, who officially joined Seoul in February, said, `My first home game attracted 52,000 spectators. It was the record for the largest audience in Korean soccer history. Two games later, he underwent surgery for a meniscus injury and returned in May. I am happy to contribute to the team with five goals and two assists in 21 matches so far." Lingard, who toured the city on a bicycle and tasted kimchi, said "The most important thing is that we found the best barber."

Lingard said "The respect the young players here show to the veteran is amazing. I am also close to some young players. I'm trying to be an example, doing the rest of my training. Recalling what Wayne Rooney did to me when I was a kid. When I first played in a Champions League game, it was cold at minus five degrees. So when I try to put the gloves on, Rooney ' (the gloves) don't work. We are Manchester United. He also warned, `Don't buy a new car until you run more than 50 games.'"I recalled the past. Lingard is likely to give similar advice to young players such as Lee Seung-joon and Ham Sun-woo, who have now left Seoul.

Lingard said that some members of the public dance and enjoy Paul Pogba and players like him are viewed and tailored in a bad light. "We're just trying to express ourselves and communicate with our followers. We are people with positive and bright energy. Live by enjoying the moment. I don't think there's anything wrong with that." As for Pogba, who has been close since Manchester United's youth days, "If you talk for a while, you'll find that he's the most humble person. The love of soccer is also tremendous."

Lingard, who signed a two-year contract with Seoul, said in the end, `I didn't come to Korea just to play for one season. It's not going to be easy, but I'm going to try to win. I came to Korea to achieve something, and I want to leave my legacy. I'm back on the ground, and I'm doing my best here" concludes the article with aspirations.
