The K-League Club Qualification Review Committee (Chairman Lee Seok-myung) approved the issuance of licenses for 25 clubs that applied for the '2025 K-League 1 License' through a meeting on the 11th of this month. The Club Qualification Review Committee is an independent organization that deliberates on issuing K-League club licenses and evaluates whether it meets the criteria under the K-League 1 club licensing regulations based on the review of documents submitted by the club and on-site inspection results every year, and decides whether to issue a license. The criteria for issuing K League 1 licenses consist of a total of five areas: sports, facilities, personnel and administration, legal affairs, and finance.
The club qualification review committee conducted the review based on documents submitted by each club at the last meeting. In particular, Gimpo also acquired the K League 1 license.
Gimpo succeeded in advancing to the promotion and playoffs last year, which no one expected. In the process, he was embroiled in a controversy over his qualifications. This is because the seats at Salter Football Stadium, Gimpo's home stadium, were less than 10,000 seats at K League 1 Stadium. The board of directors of the Korea Professional Football Federation made it mandatory for Gimpo to secure 10,000 seats by this year, and Gimpo submitted a plan to expand the stands and received conditional approval. Gimpo completed the construction of the Salter Football Stadium seat extension this year and obtained the K League 1 license.
As all K-League clubs acquire the "2025 K-League 1 License", the teams participating in the K-League 1 in the 2025 season will be determined by the final results of the league this season.
Meanwhile, at the meeting, the Club Qualification Review Committee discussed major K-League issues and tasks this season, along with license deliberations, and ways to reflect improvements in club licensing regulations. Based on this, the federation plans to strengthen the K League 1 club licensing standards next year.
