KT Wiz manager Lee Kang-chul expressed his will to set up the wild card game for the first time in history.
KT won 4-0 in Game 1 of the wild card game against the Doosan Bears at Jamsil Stadium on the 2nd thanks to starter Cuevas' nine strikeouts and no runs in six innings and a four-run big inning that destroyed the opponent's starter Kwak Bin in the first inning.
With the victory, KT will be able to balance the series 1-1 and compete in the second game. KT's second-round pick is Benjamin. On top of that, Ko Young-pyo and Cho Hyung-joon, who did not throw on the day, can all take the mound.
The following is a Q&A session with coach Lee after the first round.
-He scored a lot in the first inning.
▶I didn't know I would get that many points. I was hit by Kwak Bin's ball, but today I put up with that ball and aimed well for the strike. So it became a good game.
-Cuevas slowed down at the end of the season.
▶Today, I felt like I was watching the tiebreaker with Samsung in 2021. The focused Cuevas was incredible. I threw a really good ball. It's a ball that I haven't seen recently.(laughs) What a charm.
-Can both Ko Young-pyo and Cho Hyung-joon come out in the second round.
▶Cho Hyung-joon will prepare if he says it's okay after looking at his condition, and Ko Young-pyo will be enough. Son Dong-hyun posted it well in Jamsil, but he pitched well and I think he can use it well.
-What is the clean-up trio configuration.
▶The best players were put in the middle. It went off well. Jang Sung-woo has good contact, so he's ordering number 3.
-What is the prospect of the second game.
▶I faced Balazovic for the first time today, and it was really good. I don't know if it will come out tomorrow or not. Still, we played well against other pitchers except Kwak Bin. I hope the bat will burst tomorrow. It was hard because there were no additional points today. I don't think I'll win if I hit it tomorrow.
-Hwang Jae-gyun was sluggish.
▶I'm worried. Still, I did well in defense. Hwang Jae-gyun has no choice but to go together. I just hope you'll do well.
-There were quite a lot of KT away fans.
▶I went out and saw it, and there were so many people. So the players were able to cheer up.
-Can Park Young-hyun fight back-to-back games.
▶We also play three consecutive games during the season. How bad are you going to be if you don't use it tomorrow? (laughs)
