Kim Hong-rok was the first to cross the finish line in 2:20:36 at the '2024 Chosun Ilbo Chuncheon Marathon and 78th National Marathon Championships (co-hosted by Chosun Ilbo, Sports Chosun, Chuncheon City, and Korean Athletics Federation) held at the international official course (42.195km) that left Gongjicheon Park in Chuncheon, Gangwon Province, passed the three-way intersection at the entrance of Gangwon Chego High School, Chuncheon Dam, and entered the finish line. Kim Hong-rok, who was unfortunately the runner-up at last year's competition, competed with Son Se-jin of Konkuk University until the 30km mark, and hit the 35km mark to finish first.
Kim Hong-rok, who complained of side pain during the race, said "I wasn't in good condition, but I regained my pace with a positive mind."I'm not satisfied with my winning record. I'm not good enough, but I want to become a player who can break not only Korean records but also Asian records."
Kim Yun-sik (Gyemyeong University), who finished in 2 hours 25 minutes 25 seconds, and Son Se-jin, who finished in 3rd place, took 2 hours 25 minutes 50 seconds, respectively.
The winner of the women's elite category was Jeong Da-eun. Jung Dae-eun topped the list with a time of 2:40:13. As a long-distance (5,000m, 10,000m), she turned to marathon in 2016. Jung Da-eun said, "This is my first year at the Chuncheon Marathon, and I was nervous ahead of this competition, which is called a difficult course because there are many hills"I fell in the middle of the race, but I endured it thinking about the coach who worked hard preparing for the competition."
Kim Ji-eun (Hapcheon County Office), who ran in 2:53:47, took second place.
This year's Chuncheon Marathon did not invite foreign athletes to revive the elite marathon in Korea. The total prize money of 82 million won, the largest among domestic marathon competitions, including 20 million won for first place and 10 million won for second place, will be given.
