Choi Hyung-woo hit a leadoff home run in the bottom of the fifth inning in Game 5 of the Korean Series against the Samsung Lions at Kia Champions Field in Gwangju on the 28th.
KIA was being dragged 1-5 until the top of the third inning as starting pitcher Yang Hyun-jong was hit in the early stages. He recovered one point in the bottom of the third inning, and the three-point gap continues as he missed the chance to score in the bottom of the fourth inning.
The long-awaited cannon shot finally exploded. Choi Hyung-woo, the eldest brother who took the batter's box as the leadoff batter in the bottom of the fifth inning, targeted Samsung's must-win group Kim Tae-hoon. He hit a 140-km cutter on the fifth pitch in 1B2S and connected it with a solo home run over the right fence. Choi Hyung-woo's first home run in the Korean Series.
At the same time, he rewrote the postseason record for the oldest home run. The previous oldest home run was a home run achieved by Kim Kang-min (then SSG) in Game 5 of the 2022 Korean Series, when he was 40 years, 1 month, and 25 days old.
Choi Hyung-woo extended Kim Kang-min's record by nine months and rewrote a new record for the oldest age at 40 years, 10 months, and 12 days.
Meanwhile, KIA went on a 3-5 chase with Choi Hyung-woo's home run.
