LCK Summer Season Hits Highest Average Viewers Per Minute, Surges in Overseas Viewers

The viewing indicators for the '2024 League of Legends Champions Korea' (LCK) summer season, which ended with the victory of Hanwha Life e-Sports, have been announced.
It recorded the highest average number of viewers per minute (AMA) ever, and proved to be still a popular league in the world, with overseas viewers reaching 75% of the total in the final.
AMA refers to the average number of viewers watched from the beginning to the end of a set, and is an indicator of the continuity or immersion of the content. The overall AMA for this summer season is 449,000, an all-time high. It is up 4.6% from 42.9 million last spring season and up 17.2% from the average of 38.3 million in 2023.
LCK explained that this is due to the influx of more overseas fans. According to this year's spring season's global AMA indicators, the largest number of fans watched English broadcasts, followed by Chinese and Vietnamese, recording 244,000. In addition, it recorded 283,000 in the summer season, an increase of 16% compared to the spring, especially Chinese broadcasting, which rose 34% to 122 million, leading to an overall increase in figures.
Gen.G won the MSI (Mid Season Invitational) held in Chengdu, China in May, gaining popularity among Chinese fans, and it is attributed to attracting fans as LCK was broadcasted through Chinese coast trimmers. The influx of Vietnamese fans is also noticeable. The Vietnamese language, which recorded 33 million AMAs in Summer in 2023, grew 40% to 49,000 in Summer this year.
Other factors also helped the index rise, LCK emphasized. First introduced in 2023, 'Saturday Showdown' has established itself as a 'Big Match' that gives fans a lot of fun, and the ranking battle for the playoffs has been fierce until the end of the regular league. Not only did the new team reach the finals in the playoffs, but Hanwha Life Insurance, not Gen.G and T1, also lifted the trophy, laying the foundation for LCK to attract more fans' attention.
The domestic average AMA also rose as much as 37% from 128,000 in 2023 to 176,000 in 2024. It can be said that the number of domestic fans has increased compared to last year.
