The San Francisco Giants of the U.S. Major League Baseball announced on the 19th (Korea time) that they appointed J.P. Martinez as their new pitching coach instead of Brian Price, who retired after a season.
Martinez is 42, who served as the team's assistant pitching coach for four seasons after joining San Francisco in 2021. After joining Martinez, San Francisco pitchers had the fourth-lowest ERA in the National League at 3.80.
Martinez played several roles for the Minnesota Twins in six seasons before coming to San Francisco, most recently as the club's assistant pitching coordinator.
Coach Price is a five-year manager with the Cincinnati Reds, a leader who has gone through multiple positions, and signed a two-year contract with San Francisco ahead of this season at the behest of close friend Bob Melvin. However, he chose to resign after a year. San Francisco is trying to make innovative changes by replacing both its president and general manager after new president Buster Posey took the helm. Locally, Coach Price also believes that he is leaving the team on the extension.
