Hanwha Life e-Sports, Korea's No. 1 seed, and Billibilli Gaming, China's No. 1 seed, were decided to compete in the quarterfinals in the quarterfinals draw held after the '2024 League of Legends World Championship' Swiss Stage (round of 16) was completed at Riot Games Arena in Berlin, Germany on the 14th (Korea time).
Gen. G, the second seed of LCK, met with Flyquest, the first seed of LCS (North America), who is considered the weakest among the quarterfinals, and T1, the fourth seed and defending champion, will face China's second seed TES.
On the other hand, despite winning two consecutive games at the beginning of the round of 16, D-plus Kia, LCK's third seed, failed to advance to the quarterfinals as it did last year, losing to three Chinese teams, LNG, TES, and Weibo Gaming.
Bilibili, where Hanwha Life Insurance meets, failed to advance to the final after beating Gen.G in the quarterfinals at the LOL World Cup last year and losing to Weibo Gaming in the same region in the semifinals. However, he won both the LPL spring and summer this year, and is a representative strong team, advancing to the final at the MSI (Mid Season Invitational) held in May, losing to Gen.G, and finishing second.
However, in the round of 16 at the LOL World Cup, they lost to LNG and T1 in the same region in succession, and were on the verge of elimination, but won two consecutive games to reach the quarterfinals. Although he has not yet properly adapted to the LOL World Cup meta, he is gradually recovering his momentum and is expected to face Hanwha Life as it is a multi-facilitation of the best-of-five series.
If Hanwha Life Insurance wins the quarterfinals against Bilibili, it will meet the winners of LNG and Weibo, the LPL civil war, in the semifinals and compete for the finals.
Gen.G, who reached the quarterfinals early with all three wins in the round of 16, is expected to meet FlyQuest, who reached the quarterfinals by drawing a match rather than his skills. However, Flyquest is a team that creates various variables by presenting a surprise champion in the fourth round of the Swiss stage against Hanwha Life Insurance, so its ability to cope with this is key.
T1 lost to TES in the first match of the Swiss stage, and they had a chance to pay it back from the quarterfinals. TES' strength is that it met three LCK teams in the round of 16, including T1, and lost to Gen.G. Reaching the semifinals in 2020 is the best performance in the LOL World Cup ever. If T1 beats TES in the quarterfinals, chances are high that it will play Gen.G in the semifinals.
The quarter-finals will be held at the Adidas Arena in Paris, France. Hanwha Life Insurance will play on the 18th, T1 on the 19th, and Gen.G will play on the 20th from 9 p.m., respectively.
