The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (hereinafter referred to as the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) pointed out procedural problems in the appointment process through the announcement of a specific audit related to the appointment of the national coach of the Korea Football Association at the annex of the Seoul Government Complex in Jongno-gu, Seoul on the morning of the 2nd.
After Jurgen Klinsmann's resignation in February, the Korea Football Association formed a power reinforcement committee for the appointment of a coach and appointed Hong Myung-bo as the head coach of the A national team in July after 10 face-to-face meetings and one non-face-to-face extraordinary meeting. Since then, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism began an audit in mid-July after a heated controversy among fans along with the revelation of Park Joo-ho and others about the process for appointing Hong.
Since this year, the Korea Football Association has been audited by the audit office, not the secretary-general of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, as it falls under public service-related organizations (institutions or organizations that entrust, contribute, and receive subsidies of more than 1 billion won per year from local governments, organizations that entrust or act on behalf of local governments, and organizations with more than 10 billion won in budget).
In a specific audit briefing, Inspector Choi argued that the Korea Football Association complied with the relevant regulations in the entire process related to the appointment of the national team coach, but the chairman conducted the interview (2nd, final) of the candidate for the coach (when Klinsmann was appointed, the chairman disabled the function of the power reinforcement committee, omitted the process of appointing the board of directors (when Hong Myung-bo was appointed), recommended the final director (when Hong was appointed), the interview process was opaque and unfair, and the board's written resolution after the announcement of the coach's nomination also violated the relevant regulations, such as distributing false rebuttal or press explanation.
