Shin Sang-woo (48), coach of Gimcheon Sangmu, has been appointed as the new head coach of the Korean women's national soccer team.

The Korea Football Association announced on the 10th that it appointed Kim Shin-woo, the managing director of the women's national team, as the coach of the women's national team, which had been vacant after the end of its contract with Colin Bell in June. The contract period is until the 2028 LA Olympics, and it is scheduled to receive interim evaluation through the 2027 Women's World Cup in Brazil.

Coach Shin Sang-woo graduated from Kwangwoon Technical High School and Kwangwoon University, played in Daejeon Citizen and Seongnam Ilhwa, and began his leadership career as a coach for Gimhae City Hall in the National League. In 2015, he moved to women's soccer and coached Boeun Sangmu (currently Mungyeong Sangmu) and served as coach of Icheon Bridge (2017) and Changnyeong WFC (2018-2021). He contributed to winning the K League 2 as a coach for Kim Cheon Sangmu of men's soccer in 2022.

In August, the newly formed National Power Reinforcement Committee first reviewed 30 candidates through three meetings to appoint the women's national team coach and then selected five final candidates. Since then, interviewers selected within the committee have conducted in-depth interviews with seven major analysis targets, including experience and suitability for women's soccer, tactical capabilities and philosophy, and plans and visions for the women's national team in the future. At the fourth meeting, the Power Reinforcement Committee shared the results of interviews with the final candidates with the members, discussed them in depth, and the members reviewed and scored the candidates. As a result, coach Shin Sang-woo got the highest score among the five.

Coach Shin Sang-woo, who received the first recommendation, was approved through a written resolution by the board of directors and recently completed a contract with the Korea Football Association.

Choi Young-il, chairman of the Korea Power Reinforcement Committee, said, `Coach Shin Sang-woo has a firm football philosophy about team composition and game models. He also highly appreciated his experience as a leader in the WK League, promotion to the K League, and experience as a top team coach in the K League 1"I explained the background of the recommendation. Shin Sang-woo, the new coach of the women's national team, will make his A-match debut at the Tokyo National Stadium on the 26th. The roster of the national team will be announced on the 14th.
