The award was established in 1999 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Aaron's 1974 record-breaking home run by Babe Ruth, and is selected by a panel of Hall of Fame members and a vote of baseball fans. The vote will be held until 1 a.m. on the 14th, and the winners will be announced on November 15.
In the National League (NL), including Ohtani, Freddie Freeman (Dodgers), Marcel Ojuna (Atlanta), Ketel Marte (Arizona), Bryce Harper, Kyle Schwarber (Philadelphia), Francisco Lindor (New York), William Contreras (Miladelphia), Jackson Merrill (San Diego), Eli Deracruz (Cincinnati), Yankees double guns Judge, Juan Soto, Yordan Alvarez (Houston), Jarran Duran (Boston), Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (Toronto), Gonna Henderson, Anthony Santander (Baltimore), Jose Ramy.
The 10 finalists for each league were selected by reporters from MLB.com .
It is safe to say that the winners of both leagues have actually been decided to the extent that I wonder if a vote is necessary. NL's Ohtani and AL's Judge are likely to receive the award for the second time in their lives. Ohtani is aiming for the second consecutive year following last year, while Judge is aiming for the trophy for the first time in two years following 2022.
Matt Kemp is the only Dodgers player to receive the Hank Aaron Award in 2011. Ohtani is certain to be the second Dodgers player to win the award in 13 years. In that case, Ohtani would become the first player ever to win the award in both leagues.
The biggest winner of all time is Alex Rodriguez, who won four times, and Barry Bonds won three times.
Since the two leagues are awarded separately, it is impossible to determine the winner between Ohtani and Judge, who divided major league issues this season.
However, Judge beat Ohtani in both leagues in the 'Player of the Year' category, where the winners were decided earlier. The jersey was decided by Baseball America and the Baseball Digest as the 「Major League Player of the Year」.
