The Mets beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 12-6 on the 19th (Korea time) after an active batting battle in Game 5 of the National League Championship Series (NLCS) at City Field, New York.
The Mets, who followed the series with 2 wins and 3 losses, must win both of their remaining two games to advance to the World Series. Games 6 and 7 between the two teams will be held at Dodger Stadium from the 21st to the 22nd.
The Dodgers allowed eight runs in the midst of extreme turbulence in which the trusted starter Jack Fleherty gave up eight hits and four walks, including one home run, in three innings. It wasn't Fleherty, who pitched seven innings of two hits and no runs in the first game. As if he had been signaled by Mets batters, he could hardly induce a swing and miss, and his control did not work.
Dodgers' twin guns Shohei Ohtani (2 hits and 1 walk in 2 at-bats) and Mookie Betts (2 hits and 1 RBI in 4 at-bats) achieved multi-hits, but they failed to connect effectively, and rookie center fielder Endi Parz hit multiple home runs and worked hard.
The Mets struggled with starter David Peterson giving up six hits and four walks in three ⅔ innings, but minimized the number of runs to two, setting the stage for victory. Edwin Diaz, who took the mound in the eighth inning with an 11-6 lead, finished the game with one hit and two strikeouts in two innings.

Then, the Mets took advantage of the chance in the bottom of the first inning to take the lead. Pete Alonso hit a three-run home run in the middle in the first and second base chances made by front-runner Francisco Lindor's right-handed hit and Brandon Nemo's walk. Alonso rolled up Fleherty's low 84-mile slider in the middle of the fourth pitch at 2B1S to well over the middle fence. Alonso's fourth home run of the postseason with a launch angle of 24 degrees, a batting speed of 113.6 miles and a flying distance of 432 feet.
The Dodgers recovered a run in the top of the second inning. With a walk by lead Kiké Hernández and a heavy hit by Pazs after two outs, Kiké homered by Peterson's wild pitch on the first and third bases. Ohtani then drew a walk from the full count and continued the opportunity with two outs and runners on the first and second bases, but Betts hit a foul fly to the first baseman and failed to score additional points.

The Dodgers' pursuit was also not easy. After two outs in the top of the fourth inning, Parcs made up for a point by hitting a solo home run over left-center, Ohtani's missed hit to left-center, and Betts and Teosca's consecutive walks continued the two-out bases-loaded chance. Freeman, however, failed to take advantage of the golden opportunity as he struck out against changed pitcher Reed Garrett.
When the Mets added two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning with a triple by first baseman Winker with no outs and a sacrifice fly by Jeff McNeil, the Dodgers followed with 5-10 in the fifth inning with a three-run homer in left-center. With two home runs, Pazs became the first rookie in Dodgers history to hit multiple home runs in postseason games.
In the top of the sixth inning, Betts scored a solo shot to the left to add a point. Betts' fourth homer of the postseason.
However, the Mets took the lead by adding a valuable run in the bottom of the sixth inning with a 10-6 lead. McNeil, a one-out runner and third baseman who made Winker's dune and Marte's double, hit a sacrifice fly to center field to call Winker and run back 11-6. Marte's timely hit in the bottom of the eighth inning gave the Mets a 12-6 run to decide the game.
