Kang Shin-wook, an honorary professor at Dankook University, officially announced his candidacy for the 42nd president of the Korea Sports Council.

Professor Kang held a press conference at the Press Center in Jung-gu, Seoul on the 23rd and expressed his willingness to run for the president of the Korea Sports Council in January next year.

Professor Kang declared his candidacy in front of 400 supporters, saying, `We will build the world's best country for sports through strong changes with leadership prepared to make the history of sports for the next 100 years of the Republic of Korea" he said.



Professor Kang said, `The sports community is now at the center of confusion and disgrace. It does not follow the rules that sportsmen value, he said. "'Fraudsters seeking private interests should firmly order their exit by taking up a red card.'" If he/she is elected president of the Korean Sports Council, he/she will be the first to restore mutually productive relations with the government as soon as possible, foster athletes, improve the treatment of leaders, secure stable project and operating expenses, and expedite legislation to do so," he added.

In an interview with reporters, Kang said, `I intend to unify with other candidates, including Yoo Seung Min, former president of the Korea Table Tennis Association, who has already announced his candidacy to prevent Lee Ki-heung, the current chairman of the Korea Sports Council, from serving a third termmade it clear that " He also said that if elected, the term of office of the chairman of the Korean Sports Council will be limited to eight years.

After graduating from the Department of Physical Education at Seoul National University, Professor Kang served as the head coach of the hockey department at Nongyeo Middle School, and since 1989, he has been a professor of international sports at Dankook University, and was appointed as an honorary professor after retirement from the retirement age. He is an elderly sportsman who has been an educator and administrator for a long time, including co-representative of the Sports Citizens' Solidarity (2005-2013), president of the Korea Sports Association (2016-2017), and director of the Korea Sports Association (2017).



Professor Kang won the second highest vote (25.7%) after Chairman Lee Ki-heung in the election for the 41st sports president held in 2021.
