It turned out that Manchester United contacted Sebastian Hönes Stuttgart last summer.

Julian Agardi, a Stuttgart reporter for the German daily Bild, said on his official channel on the 13th (local time) that "Last summer, Manchester United contacted Hønnes to inquire about the possibility of change. Hurness was in a good mood, but politely declined. Because he didn't think his journey in Stuttgart was over" he said.

Christian Polk, who belongs to the same media company, said Manchester United contacted Hønnes before signing an extension contract with Manchester United coach Erik tenhach. Polk said "Manchester United management wanted to know if Hurness could take over as Manchester United manager.

According to this report, Manchester United were rejected by Hønnes and extended their contract with Tenhach.

Coach Tenhach won the League Cup in the 2022-2023 season and the FA Cup in the 2023-2024 season in a row, but last season he finished eighth in the league standings, his worst performance ever. It was expected to split naturally, but in early July, it gave 'compensation' to extend the contract period until June 2026.

Manchester United is in 14th place with only two wins, two draws and three losses and eight points in seven league games in the new season.

Coach Hönes started his leadership career in the Bayern Munich 2nd division, went through Hoffenheim from 2020 to 2022, and took the helm of Stuttgart in April 2023. Hönes, who led Stuttgart's dramatic stay in the Bundesliga relegation zone, put his team in second place in the league with a remarkable rebound in the 2023-2024 season. Second place in the league was the club's best performance since 2007.

Stuttgart ranks eighth in the new season with two wins, three draws and one loss and nine points in six games.

Jung Woo-young joined Stuttgart in 2023 after forming a relationship with Hönes in Munich's second division. He left for Union Berlin on loan ahead of the new season and scored one goal in five games.
