The Seoul Olympic Memorial National Sports Promotion Foundation (Chairman Cho Hyun-jae) announced that it held an `Expert Forum for Promotion of Sports Personality Welfare' with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to find ways to improve sports person welfare policies through in-depth analysis.

Based on the 「Sportsman Welfare Act」 implemented in August 2022, this forum was promoted to collect opinions from the sports community, including the Korea Sports Association and the Korea Sports Association, a dedicated organization for sportsmen's welfare, prior to the establishment of the"Sportsman Welfare Policy (tentative name)" by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in the future.

At the forum held at the Olympic Parktel in Seoul on the 17th, Lee Jung-woo, director of the sports bureau at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, gave a presentation on the "direction of welfare policies for job stability for retired athletes" by senior researcher Kim Tae-wan (Korea Institute of Health and Social Affairs), and senior researcher Sung Moon-jeong (Korea Sports Science Institute) on the "limitations of the Sports Personality Welfare Act and directions for improvement".

Later, researcher Kim Dong-gyu (Korea Employment Information Service), director of the Cultural Research Headquarters Yang Hye-won (Korea Culture and Tourism Institute), Professor Lim Sae-mi (Incheon University), and non-executive teacher Jeon Mi-kyung (Korea Sports University) attended the general discussion and presented various opinions on 'Providing job experience for retired athletes linked to government department projects', 'Proposal for welfare policy for sportsmen compared to welfare policy for artists', 'Necessity for tight and fair welfare policy for all sportsmen', and 'Improving athletic environment and awareness of sports for the disabled'.

An official from the Korea Sports Corporation said "We hope that this forum will create a consensus to improve policies for athletes." We will do our best to support the welfare of high-quality athletes in line with the improved policy direction."
