Sports Toto Korea again asks to ban illegal sports gambling youth from using it
'Unlawful sports gambling, youth should never use it!'

Sports Toto Korea, a sports promotion voting rights entrusted by the Korea Sports Promotion Foundation, once again urged teenagers to pay attention to illegal sports betting and illegal sports gambling sites.

Sports gambling, such as the release of similar sites that mimic games unique to Sports Toto, such as Toto and Proto, is considered illegal. In addition, regardless of legal or illegal, adolescents cannot use them all in any case.

Sports Toto, a sports promotion voting ticket in Korea, and Betman, an official Internet release site, are both legal. Under the current National Sports Promotion Act, youths can face up to three years in prison or a fine of up to 30 million won if they violate the purchase restriction that they should not sell sports promotion voting tickets or pay refunds.

In addition, teenagers should pay special attention to this point because it stipulates that not only illegal sports gambling operators but also those who participate will be sentenced to up to five years in prison or fined up to 50 million won.

Despite these regulations, data from the Gambling Industry Integrated Supervision Committee revealed that the number of teenagers receiving gambling addiction treatment is increasing rapidly. From January to July 2024, the number of gambling types and teenage users who received the 'Gambling Addiction Healing Service" was ▲illegal online casinos (1,319), ▲ private Sports Toto (211), ▲illegal real-time games (140).

In particular, illegal sports gambling sites with servers abroad use a lot of phrases far from reality, such as false statements that are "state-authorized sports betting," raising concerns that the damage cases and amount of illegal sports gambling by teenagers will increase.
