Hwang Hee-chan played in the 12th round of the English Premier League (EPL) in the 2024-2025 season against Fulham at Craven Cottage in London on the afternoon of the 23rd (local time). He entered as a substitute at the end of the second half and played for about six minutes. It was his first return match in six weeks since he injured his ankle in the A-match in October.
Initially, Hwang Hee-chan was expected to be absent for quite a long time. But he was able to start exercising unexpectedly quickly. In response, Hwang Hee-chan thanked those who helped with the treatment. In particular, I would like to thank Mr. Andeok-soo and Mr. Song Young-sik. He always helped me. During the A-match period, I went to Korea for treatment and was able to come back quickly."

-How are you feeling?
▶I ran for the first time in a long time, but I can't say it's perfect yet. There's still a little pain left. That's why I'm continuing to get treatment. I'm so happy to be able to come back like this. I think it was so nice to feel it again after a long time coming to the stadium with my colleagues.
-The game input was later than expected. Is it something that was mentioned in advance?
▶First of all, I didn't talk about that in detail. There were some good sessions while working out, but there were still some areas where I couldn't do it perfectly 100% because I was in pain. I also talked about that with the director. So it's not 100%, so I don't think I even played as a starter. In the second half, it went in around the end. It's not a bummer. Of course, it's a bummer, but I think I'm a little more happy about being able to run again.
-I've suffered from injuries in my long career. How did that experience help you with your rehabilitation?
▶To be very honest, I don't think I've had any ankle injuries since I was young. It was my first time to seriously hurt my ankle when I grew up. Actually, I didn't know what to do, so I asked a lot of people and asked for advice.
But most of the time, there is a saying that you have to endure the pain of the ankle. At some point, I started exercising even if I had pain. First of all, I think the treatment took a little longer than I thought.
It took a little longer than the diagnosis came out, so I think I actually had a little more impatience. Because I wanted to go to the national team, and I wanted to come back to the stadium and play soccer, which I like. I couldn't do that, so I did. There were people who helped me with the treatment, and I want to say thank you to them first.
I'd like to tell you in detail. First of all, the treatment was taking longer than I thought, so I felt a little stuffy. I contacted Ahn Deok-soo and Song Young-sik who were at the Qatar World Cup. It was like that at the World Cup and I was sick at the Asian Cup. I always couldn't play the first few games due to injuries, but I played because he always treated me.
This time, I was a little frustrated, so I contacted him again, but he was willing to help me again and give me some treatment. During the A-match break, I went to Korea for a while and got treatment again. There are parts that have improved a lot, so I want to say thank you to Ahn and Song.
There were a lot of things to talk about during the World Cup, but I think there were a lot of misunderstandings. I always received a lot of help in those moments. They keep in touch with us this time, and they're always helping us a lot.
I've always been a player with a lot of injuries. All the people who treat me are saying that it's such a good muscle and a muscle that doesn't get hurt, but since I've been getting injured, they've done a lot of research together and helped me run in a better body. I'm continuing to research and as the fans keep watching me, there are fewer and fewer injuries, so I'm very grateful for that.
The fact that I was able to come back like this. It could have been a little longer, but I think I'm very grateful that I was able to return quickly because you treated that well.So I'm very happy to come in, too.
-Did Gary O'Neill order anything in particular during the extended injury?
▶The coach also understood too well that he had pain at the end of his ankle because he was a player. So the coach understands that, but anyway, there's no pain and I have to show 100% to the fans and me in the stadium, so I think I'm waiting a little longer for those parts.
It's not an injury that you can just rest until it's completely cured. My ankle. As a result, I heard that I have to wait for the pain to drop while exercising, so I think I'm getting a lot better by doing rehabilitation exercises.
