Yoo Seung Min, former president of the Korea Table Tennis Association (former IOC member), will hold a press conference on the 3rd of next month to run for the 42nd president of the Korea Sports Council.

Former Chairman Yoo will hold a press conference at 10 a.m. on the 3rd of next month to officially announce his candidacy for the 42nd president of the Korea Sports Council at the Diamond Hall on the 22nd floor of The Plaza Hotel in Jung-gu, Seoul. Former Chairman Yoo will present the background of his candidacy and the vision and policies that will lead to the development of Korean sports. As the chairman of the Korean Sports Council, he will also announce his key policy commitments.

Former president Yoo Seung Min, a gold medalist in men's table tennis at the 2004 Athens Olympics and the only weighting country in the 2000s, served as an IOC member from 2016 to 2024 after retiring as a player, and has continued his career in sports diplomacy representing South Korea and the IOC until recently.




After taking office as the president of the Korea Table Tennis Association in May 2019, he overcame the COVID-19 pandemic crisis to lead the successful hosting of the 2024 Busan World Championships, and achieved his best performance in 12 years with mixed doubles and women's team multi bronze at the 2024 Paris Olympics??has proven its leadership as head of sports.

Meanwhile, former chairman Yoo Seung Min, honorary professor Kang Shin-wook of Dankook University, Kang Tae-sun, former chairman of the Seoul Sports Council, Park Chang-beom, former secretary-general of the Gangwon Provincial Sports Council, and former Incheon Mayor Ahn Sang-soo expressed their intention to challenge the 42nd election on January 14, 2025. Lee Ki-heung, chairman of the Korea Sports Council, is expected to express his intention to run for a third consecutive term, around the 29th, the deadline for submitting a candidate registration statement. The registration period for presidential candidates is December 24-25, and the campaign will be held for 20 days from the day after registration to the day before the election.
