South Korean men's handball legend Park Chan-young (41) broke up with a friendly court. Park Chan-young held a retirement ceremony ahead of the 'SOL Pay 2024-2025 Handball H League" match between Doosan and Chungnam Provincial Government held at the Olympic Handball Stadium in Seoul on the 16th.
Park Chan-young, born in 1983, has played for Doosan for 18 years since 2007. He made 1408 saves (39.66%) in 207 regular league games and 248 saves (39.85%) in 28 postseason games. He left a brilliant history, including one regular league MVP and two championship MVP awards.
He also made a mark as a member of the national team. He has been on the court under the national flag for 15 years. She won the gold medal at the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games. She also performed at the 2012 London Olympics.
Park Chan-young, who retired amid the enthusiastic applause of fans, finally shed tears. He said "It's a bittersweet. He spent 34 years as a handball player and 20 years as an unemployed player. I met a good teacher and a senior and junior, so I was able to play until now. There is nothing to be desired in his career. I won a gold medal at the Asian Games and participated in the Olympics. He also won nine consecutive league titles as a member of Doosan. In the 2018-2019 season, he also won the championship."
Park Chan-young starts her life after retirement as Doosan coach. "I can't wait to learn a lot as I walk the leader's path and help the players grow," he said. I want to grow into a coach exclusively for goalkeepers."
Doosan manager Yoon Kyung-shin, who is a handball senior and has been in the same team so far, said "It felt good to be able to do it together." I want to express my gratitude. I hope that I will become a better leader who can train the best goalkeepers, and I always support him."
