Dogo was last year's WBC winner. It is the three pillars of the Premier 12 national team's selection along with Takahashi and Saiki. Photo Source = Japan Baseball Team's website

Dogo became the first Yomiuri high school high school pitcher to earn more than 100 million yen a year in his sixth year. It jumped to 180 million yen from 90 million yen last year. Photo capture =Miuri Giants SNS
Yomiuri Giants right-hander Shosei Toko (24) is the main starting pitcher for the Japanese national team. After last year's WBC (World Baseball Classic), he joined the Japanese national team for the Premier 12 in 2024. In the 2023 WBC, the attention was lower than Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto (LA Dodgers), Yu Darvish (San Diego Padres), and Rocky Sasaki (Chiba Lotte Marines).

This Premier 12 is different. Hiroto Takahashi (Chunichi Dragons), who started against Korea in the group stage, and Hiroto Saiki (Hanshin Tigers), who started against Cuba, and Dogo are the main starters. The three players ranked in this year's Central League ERA 'Top 5'. Takahashi came in first (1.38), Saiki came in third (1.83), and Togo came in fifth (1.95).

Major League players were missing from the Japanese national team. Hiromi Ito (Nihonham Fighters), who won the Pacific League's most wins this year, left due to an injury just before training for the national team. Sasaki, who is challenging the Major League through the posting system, was also excluded.

Last year, when he won the WBC title, Dogo was once again extraordinary. He won 12 games (5 losses) and had a 2.38 ERA, including two shutouts. Following 12 wins in 2022, he has won double-digit games for the second consecutive year, and has exceeded 170 innings for the second consecutive year. The annual salary jumped from 90 million yen to 180 million yen. He was the first Yomiuri high school pitcher to surpass 100 million yen in his sixth year as a pitcher.

This year, he made his first start in the opening game with the Hanshin Tigers. He pitched six scoreless innings and earned his first win of the season. In the Central League, it was the first starting win for a pitcher born in the 2000s.

On May 24th, there was another runaway against Hanshin 'S Dying Rival'. In 59 years at Hanshin's 'Anbang'Koshien Stadium, he achieved 'No-Hit, No-Run'. He started 26 games and posted 12 wins (eight losses) for the third consecutive year. He lowered his ERA to one point.

In the fifth group match against the Dominican Republic on Wednesday, Dogo will play the final match of the group qualifying round. Japan won all four games and ranked first among six teams in Group B. Regardless of the results of the match against the Dominican Republic, he has confirmed his advance to the Super Round at Tokyo Dome from the 21st.

Dogo participated in Yomiuri's expedition to Taiwan in March. He played in a friendly match with the Taiwanese team. Photo capture =Miuri Giants SNS
The match against Cuba was hot on the 17th. He led 5-1 and allowed a 6-6 tie in the seventh inning. The reliable bullpen suddenly shook. He allowed three runs in the sixth inning and two runs in the seventh inning. In the eighth inning, Ryoya Kurihara (Softbank Hawks) hit a sacrifice hit to win the game 7-6. He connected the opponent's shortstop's error and a chance made by a dune to the winning point.

It's less burdensome because it's the mound after passing the preliminary round. In an interview with the Japanese media, Dogo said "Everyone is good at pitching and batters are good. I want to continue the good flow. The stadium and the opponent's batter are completely different, but it's important not to pay too much attention."

We have made every preparation ahead of this tournament. He bought a rice cooker and said he was cooking rice in his room. I came to Taiwan with 5kg of high-quality rice from Aomori, Japan. Haruto Inoue (23), a junior a year under Yomiuri, participated.

Dogo says "If you don't eat well, you lose weight. He continued to cook rice in his room. If you don't eat properly, of course, it's difficult to maintain your best condition.

Some Koreans visiting Taiwan also suffer from not being able to adapt to local food. That was the case with Dogo, who participated in Yomiuri's Taiwan friendly in March. "The rice was different." He must have had a hard time with food. He said "I brought it with me when I was hungry at night, but it's quite helpful" Curry and Japanese soybean paste soup were purchased in Taiwan, it said.

Dogo continued the rice celebration. I prefer rice for breakfast. He said "If you eat rice, you won't lose weight in the summer and your condition is good. I feel like I gain strength when I eat rice."

I'm curious about Dogo's 'Babshim'
