Kim Dong-yeop graduated from Bukil High School in 2009 and advanced to the U.S. and played for a minor league team under the Chicago Cubs. After returning to Korea, he was nominated by the SK Wyverns in the ninth round of the 2016 rookie draft. In 2018, he wore the Samsung Lions uniform through the KBO's first triangular trade conducted by Kiwoom, Samsung and SK.
Kim Dong-yeop played in 657 games in nine seasons in the KBO League and recorded 543 hits in 2,028 at-bats, 92 homers, 316 RBIs, 260 runs and a batting average of 0.268. He showed his appearance as a power heater by hitting 22 home runs in the 2017 season and 27 home runs in the 2018 season. In the 2020 season, he showed his best performance since his professional debut, posting a career-high 129 hits in a single season, with 20 home runs and a batting average of 0.312 hits.
The club is `happy to bring in the right-handed big guns that the team needs.'" With the addition of Kim Dong-yeop, the team is able to balance the left and right sides of the batters, allowing them to launch stronger and more structured attacks. As an experienced veteran player, I look forward to having a positive impact on our team's young players."
