Korea 'Team Gyeonggi Province' won the Asian Wheelchair Curling Championship.

Team Gyeonggi-do, the first champion of the wheelchair curling league, lifted the trophy by winning against Team Gangwon-do in the final of the 2024 Asian Wheelchair Curling Championship held at Icheon Training Center in Gyeonggi-do from the 11th to the 14th.

The competition, which will be held for the second time this year starting with the first competition in 2023, is organized by the Korea Disabled Curling Association and approved by the World Curling Federation. Five teams from three countries, including the Gangwon Provincial Sports Council for the Disabled, the Gyeonggi Provincial Curling Association team, and Nagano, Tokyo, and Australia, participated.

After qualifying in a round robin manner, the top four teams advanced to the playoffs to compete for the final ranking in the semifinals and finals. Team Australia ranked fifth with five losses, Gangwon Province, which came in first in the semifinals, beat fourth-ranked team Tokyo, and Gyeonggi Province, the second-ranked team in the preliminary round, beat Nagano, resulting in a final showdown between the Korean teams. After a friendly match that continued to the 7th end, the team Gyeonggi-do added a dramatic one point at the last 8th end to lift the trophy. In the bronze medal match, two Japanese teams fought on the field, and Team Nagano beat Team Tokyo to rank third.

This competition became a venue for three countries, South Korea, Japan and Australia, to share technical exchanges and experiences through wheelchair curling, and it was a meaningful opportunity to promote communication and harmony between the teams.
