KT announced on the 13th that it has appointed Hanwha Eagles pitcher Han Seung-joo as a compensation player for FA Shim Woo-joon.
Shim Woo-joon, who played for KT, signed a surprise FA contract with Hanwha on the condition of a four-year total of 5 billion won on the 7th. Shim Woo-joon was grade B, and Hanwha had to compensate KT with one compensation player and 100% of annual salary or 200% of annual salary.
A list of 25 protected players arrived at Wakayama Finishing Camp in Japan on the 12th, and KT general manager Na Do-hyun, manager Lee Kang-chul, and the coaching staff decided on pitcher Han Seung-joo as compensation players after a long meeting. There was a heated debate over several candidate players, and in the end, he chose to strengthen the mound.
Han Seung-joo, who graduated from Busan High School and joined Hanwha in the second round in 2020, pitched in 73 games in four professional seasons, recording 1 win, 6 losses, 2 holds, 83 strikeouts, and an ERA of 5.97 in 110 innings, and recorded 2 losses and an ERA of 11.45 in 22 innings in 18 games this season.
In the Futures League, he showed good performance with 4 wins, 1 loss, 4 holds, 1 save and an ERA of 1.37 in 39 ⅓ innings in 17 games.
"Recruitment to strengthen pitching depth is a prospect who can pitch various breaking balls such as sliders, curves, and folk balls in the zone based on a high-pitched fastball of up to 148 kilometers," Na said.
KT strengthened its bullpen by recruiting Choi Dong-hwan from LG this off-season. On top of that, Kang Kyung-woo, Won Sang-hyun, and Moon Yong-ik showed good performance in the closing camp, making the bullpen depth thick. In the meantime, Han Seung-joo joined to develop his dream of becoming a bullpen kingdom.
Meanwhile, KT will hand over the list of 25 Huh Kyung-min compensation protection players recruited as FA by the 13th. And on the 14th, in order to receive Um Sang-baek's compensation player who left for Hanwha with Shim Woo-joon, he will once again take over the 25-member protected player list from Hanwha.
