The national youth baseball team finished the tournament as the runner-up in the 11th Asian Youth Baseball Championship (under 12) finals in Matsuyama, Japan, losing to Taiwan 1-5.
Due to the local weather conditions in Matsuyama accompanied by strong winds, the stadium's maintenance took time and the game began an hour later than scheduled.
In the top of the first inning, starter Kim Min-wook gave up a walk to leadoff hitter Su Yu Xiang and allowed the advance to second base with a wild pitch. During Lin Wei Yan's bunt, Kwon Si-hwan's throw fell back, and the second baseman came home and gave Taiwan the first run. After (0-1), the third baseman continued to be in crisis with no outs due to stolen bases and wild pitches, and he lost additional points due to a right-handed hit by third batter Sung Yire. (0-2)
Due to poor ball control and throwing errors, the national team failed to set an out count and allowed consecutive hits, giving up a total of five runs in the first inning alone (0-5)
South Korea did not have any significant attacks until the third inning except for Park Sun-hong's right-handed hit in the bottom of the first inning. In the bottom of the fourth inning, Park Sun-hong succeeded in getting on base again with a right-handed hit, and Jang Ji-soo's walk made runners on first and second bases with no outs. However, Jungwoo Kim's well-hit ball was one out toward the shortstop, and the runner on the first base was caught in check, making it two out in an instant. With runners on third base with two outs, Park Sun-hong scored one point by running home when Lee Jae-bin made an infield hit with a fast foot (1-5)
Park Sun-hong, who took over Kim Min-wook's mound, struck out five in 5.1 innings and pitched a scoreless pitch, but he had to be satisfied with the runner-up.
Meanwhile, Lee Jae-bin won the Home Run Award (two homers) and Oh Seung-hwan won the Most Scoring Award (seven points), while Byun Yul (catcher), Lee Jae-bin (second baseman), and Park Sun-hong (striker) were listed on the All-Star team, which is the best player in each position.
The national team is scheduled to enter Incheon International Airport on Saturday, the 30th (Saturday) by flight 15:35 and 7C 1704.
