Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism notifies Lee Ki-heung, chairman of Korea Sports Council, of suspension of his duties



The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (Minister Yoo In-chon, hereinafter referred to as the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) notified Lee Ki-heung, chairman of the Korea Sports Council, of suspension of his duties on the 11th.

On the 10th, the "Government Joint Public Service Inspection Team" announced the results of the inspection of irregularities to the Korea Sports Council and requested the chairman of the Korea Sports Council to investigate for reasons such as illegal hiring of employees, requesting sponsorship of goods (receiving money and goods, etc.), and private use of sponsored goods.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism urged the investigative agency to investigate and investigate the allegations of misconduct in accordance with the 「Act on the Operation of Public Institutions」, and suspended Chairman Lee's duties. The Korean Sports Council is a public institution (other public institution) under the same Act, and the president is an executive of a public institution.




Article 52-3 (2) of the Act on the Operation of Public Institutions stipulates that if an executive of a public institution has committed misconduct, such as misconduct, sex crimes, or hiring, or is deemed to have hindered ethical management under paragraph (1), the executive of the public institution shall request an investigation or audit to an investigative agency such as the prosecution and police, and an audit agency such as the Board of Audit and Inspection, and the executive may be suspended from his/her duties.
