Incheon officially announced on the 12th that CEO Jeon Dae-soo will resign to take responsibility for poor performance. CEO Jeon Dong-soo will step down as CEO after the 15th.
CEO Jeon Dong-soo was appointed in 2019. He led the team to its first Asian Champions League (ACL) and second consecutive year to the Final A.
However, this season did not prevent relegation.
Incheon lost 1-2 to Daejeon in the 37th round home game of 'Hana Bank K League 1 2024' held at Incheon Football Stadium on the 10th. Incheon, which got off to a shaky start by giving up consecutive goals to Martha and Anton in the 15th minute of the game, only scored one goal in the 45th minute of the first half.
Incheon, which remained at 36 points, was confirmed to be the lowest regardless of the results of the remaining games. The 12th-place finisher in the K-League 1 will be directly demoted to the K-League 2.
Incheon, which has overcome the crisis several times, has not overcome the crisis this time. Incheon coach Choi Young-geun, who was appointed in August and failed to prevent the relegation, said "I asked him not to go down for the fans, but in the end, the relegation became a reality and I don't know how to comfort him."," he bowed his head with a firm face.
In the aftermath of this, CEO Jeon Dong-soo was also responsible.
Founded in 2003, Incheon remained the only civic club in the league that had never experienced relegation, and was called the "survival king". In the end, Incheon also failed to avoid relegation for the first time in 21 years.
