LG Twins recruited former Samsung Lions second-tier coach Lee Byung-kyu as their new second-tier coach on the 21st"It was officially announced. It's the return of Tim 'Legend'. Coach Lee Byung-kyu joined LG in 1997 as the first designated rookie after graduating from Jangchung High School and Dankook University. Except for the three years he played for the Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) Chunichi Dragons since then, he has played only in LG until he retired from active duty after the end of the 2015 season.
The KBO League's overall performance was a symbolic player representing the Twins with a batting average of 311, 2043 hits, 161 homers, and 972 RBIs in 1741 games. Manager Lee Byung-kyu, who announced his retirement from active duty after the 2015 season, had his number '9' dealt with the LG Twins club' permanent number.
After retirement, he transformed himself into a guidance material. Starting with LG's first-team batting assistant coach, he took over as the first-team batting coach and later moved to the Samsung Lions as the head coach with coach Park Jin-man's appointment ahead of the 2023 season. It was the first time that Lee Byung-kyu wore a team uniform other than LG.
Lee Byung-kyu, who moved to the second division during this season, recently left Samsung. Since then, LG has reached out. LG set up a second-tier Futures team under coach Seo Yong-bin this year, but the head coach was replaced by coach Kim Jung-joon during the season. And recently, after discussing the appointment of a second-tier coach again, Lee Byung-kyu was finally selected.
Meanwhile, Lee Byung-kyu, the new second-tier coach, will join the squad from January 2025.
