The South Korean national football team urgently replaced its right fullback ahead of the World Cup qualifying round.

The Korea Football Association announced on the 8th that Hwang Moon-ki (Gangwon FC) replaced Kim Moon-hwan (Daejeon) due to an injury to his left thigh thigh.

Hwang Moon-ki has been a defender since head coach Hong Myung-bo first formed the national team ahead of the third Asian qualifying round for the '2026 North Korea-China World Cup'.

Coach Hong Myung-bo selected Hwang Moon-ki and immediately appointed him as the starting player in the first round of the third qualifying round against Palestine (0-0 draw). Hwang also participated in the match against Oman (3-1 win) in the second game.

Fullback is one of the vulnerable positions in Korea. Since this year's Asian Cup, he has consistently been pointed out as a weakness.

Recently, Seol Young-woo (Zvezda) has settled down, easing worries. Seol Young-woo and Lee Myung-jae (Ulsan) worked together in the third round of the third round of the preliminary round and the Iraq match in the fourth round, while Hwang Moon-ki sat on the bench.

Kim Moon-hwan played as a right fullback during the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

Hong Myung-bo will play Kuwait in the fifth leg of the third Asian qualifying round for the 2026 North-China World Cup at 11 p.m. on the 14th. The sixth round of the Palestinian expedition will follow at 11 p.m. on the 19th. The Palestinian war has been changed to Jordan because militant Hamas and Israel have been at war for more than a year in Gaza, Palestine.
