Replying Lee Ki-heung, Chairman of the Korea Sports Council
Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Yoo In-chon mentioned the possibility of Chairman Lee Ki-heung's 'Suspension of duty'.

The government's joint public service inspection team in the Cabinet Office deployed six investigators for a month from the 8th to the 8th of last month to conduct a face-to-face investigation on 70 people, including executives and employees of the sports association. Through a briefing on the 10th, the government asked the National Police Agency to investigate eight people, including the chairman of the Korean Sports Council, on allegations of misconduct such as ▶ illegal recruitment of employees (obstruction of business), ▶ demand for sponsorship (receiving money and valuables), ▶ private use of sponsored goods (employee embezzlement) ▶ budget waste (cheating), and 11" he said.

The KOC countered, `The announcement by the Office for Government Policy Coordination was made two days before the re-election review of the heads of KOC President Lee Ki-heung and other sports organizations, and we cannot erase the suspicion that it was illegal election intervention.'

Asked by Kim Seung-soo, a member of the National Assembly's Culture, Sports and Tourism Committee on the 11th, "(Isn't it necessary for the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to immediately suspend the investigation of eight people including Chairman Lee Ki-heung announced by the Office of Government Policy Coordination?" Culture, Sports and Tourism Minister Yoo In-chon said, "(The results of the Office of Government Policy Coordination) and the Sports Ethics Center have not yet been officially received. If he receives it, he will ask us to take disciplinary action, but if confirmed, the chairman of the Korea Sports Council immediately replied, "We can suspend our duties." When asked by Rep. Shin Dong-wook of the People's Power, Minister Yoo repeatedly said, `The announcement of the inspection team of the State Affairs Coordination Office will begin\. We will suspend our duties depending on the results.'

In the case of the Korea Sports Association, a public service-related organization (an organization that receives more than 1 billion won in investment, contribution, and assistance from the government or local governments) as well as the Public Service Ethics Act, the Act on the Prohibition of Illegal Solicitation and Money, and the Act on the Operation of Public Institutions (audit). According to Article 52-3 of the Act on the Operation of Public Institutions, Chapter 4-2"Action against Violators"The Minister of Strategy and Finance or the head of a competent agency shall request an investigative agency such as the prosecution and police, and an audit agency such as the Board of Audit and Inspection to investigate or audit the executive of the relevant public institution where he/she is deemed to have violated ethical management under paragraph (1) if he/she has committed misconduct prescribed by Presidential Decree, such as bribery, sex crimes, and hiring violations. In such cases, the Minister of Strategy and Finance or the head of the competent agency may propose or request the appointment authority to suspend.

On the other hand, Chairman Lee Ki-heung was adopted again as a witness for the pending questions scheduled on that day after not attending the comprehensive audit of the committee on the 24th, but he did not attend on the same day due to his attendance at the World Olympic City Association Sports Summit (Lozan, Switzerland, 11th-13th) and overseas business trips for meetings with IOC and other international sports organizations. The ruling party's members of the people's power, who called Chairman Lee as a witness, were criticized. On the 12th, the Korea Sports Council's Sports Fair Committee was set to deliberate on whether Chairman Lee could run for a third consecutive term, and intense pressure and reprimand continued mainly by ruling party lawmakers in the National Assembly.
