Ranieri, a leading journeyman in European soccer, led Rome twice from 2009 to 2011 and 2019 after playing for Napoli, Fiorentina, Valencia, Atletico Madrid, Chelsea, Parma and Juventus.

In the 2009-2010 season, he was on the verge of winning Serie A and Copa Italy, but he lost the trophy to Jose Mourinho's 'Treble Team' Inter Milan.

Coach Ranieri, who reached the peak of his career by leading Leicester City to a miraculous English Premier League victory in the 2016-2017 season, led Nantes, Fulham, Sampdoria and Watford.

Rome faced an all-time crisis this season. Since the opening of Serie A, it has fallen to 12th place due to a slump of only three wins (13 points) in 12 games.

Rome, which replaced Mourinho in January, replaced Daniele de Rossi in September, and recently fired Ivan Yuric, who replaced De Rossi. Coach Ranieri is the fourth leader appointed by Rome this year.

Coach Ranieri will start training from the 14th. The return match is against Napoli, led by coach Antonio Conte, on the 25th.
