"I think it's the best in Korea"

Jung Woo-ju (18), who is scheduled to graduate from Jeonju High School, felt the professional air during November. He played in 19 high school baseball games this year and recorded 5 wins, 1 loss, and a 1.31 ERA, making him the best pitcher in high school. Along with Park Joon-soon (Kium), he was selected as the biggest fish in the 2025 rookie draft and was nominated by the Hanwha Eagles as the second overall pick.

He joined the Hanwha Eagles' closing camp in Miyazaki, Japan, and had a time to check his skills for next season, including a match between blue and white.

Having been properly impressed by throwing up to 150km of balls in the Blue and White match, he began to be evaluated early as a resource that can be seen in the first team next season.

Yang Sang-moon, the Hanwha pitching coach, said "For a pitcher who throws a fast ball, he throws the ball smoothly. Pitchers who throw more than 150km often take a lot of strength, and Jung Woo-joo throws softly. I think it's a great charm."

The first schedule back from training was 'awarding'. It received the grand prize in the baseball category at the 2024 Futures Star Awards held at the Korea Press Center in Jung-gu, Seoul on the 25th.

Jung Woo-joo "Trying to make Korean baseball shine in the future..." he said confidently.

He has definitely taken a step up during the closing camp. He said "What was lacking was the ability to run the breaking ball game, but Yang Sang-moon and Yoon Kyu-jin taught me well in the closing camp, so I think it will have a good effect if I exercise a little more in the future."expected "

Yang Sang-moon, the pitching coach, called on Jung Woo-ju to 'Don't throw the splitter' Coach Yang said "A breaking ball is also good. I think I'll be a much better pitcher if I have sophistication"The universe needs to grow bigger. If you throw a splitter while the command is not yet perfect, it can take a long time to find your own. The increase in pitches is not a good thing. If you take advantage of your strengths, you can throw a breaking ball at any time. It's a game with the ball now, so you can make it a little more elaborate and take it one step higher. There is no need to go up two or three steps, so I restrained (the splitter) for the time being."

Jung Woo-joo "There were a few breaking balls, but the completeness was not good. Coach Yang Sang-moon asked me not to throw a splitter, but to make sure to focus on curves and sliders, so I'm focusing on it. Now, I think I'm able to throw whatever I want"I was confident.

One of the most difficult parts of professional baseball for rookie players is physical strength. In high school baseball, there are only one or two times a week, but in professional baseball, players can take only one day off. Jung Woo-joo also cited strengthening his physical strength as an off-season task. He said "Veteran seniors told me the story of physical strength first. I also think that's the most important thing, so I'm going to prepare well by focusing on winter training now. "And I think mental skills will be important as professional baseball is played every day. I'll be more responsible," he stressed.

Jung Woo-ju's dream is 'Starting pitcher'. However, Hanwha has two foreign players and Ryu Hyun-jin and Moon Dong-ju, and signed a four-year contract with Um Sang-baek for a total of 7.8 billion won after the end of this season. In addition, Hwang Joon-seo, Cho Dong-wook, and Kim Min-woo are full of starting resources. Jung Woo-joo "I think he's the best starter in Korea. If I say I want to do it from the first year, I'll be arrogant and greedy, so I'll try to gain experience step by step in the bullpen"I'll do as the team asks me to do. I think I'll have an opportunity if I get more years. I'll work hard so that I can pull it off well in any part"I'm determined.

In addition, regarding the Rookie of the Year, "It would be a lie to say that you have no greed for the Rookie of the Year." However, rather than a big goal, Hanwha Eagles baseball comes first in front of my eyes. He said he is good at his role, but I think the Rookie of the Year will follow him if he is lucky."
