The Athletic said Son Heung-min is just a Korean. Bentancur said his remarks were aimed at rebuking Kotelo's expression. This claim was not accepted.
The FA said 'We cannot tolerate Bentancourt's position that runs squarely against the evidence. Bentancourt pointed out that Bentancourt gave an explanation that was not convincing, saying, "It does not fit not only the player's apology but also the club and Son Heung-min's response."
The regulatory committee agreed unanimously. FA can be suspended for at least 6 games and up to 12 games. Six games are the minimum punishment. Bentancourt is close to the lower limit, but not the lowest level'
Compared to past cases, it is a considerable severe punishment. In December 2020, Edinson Cavani (then Manchester United) was suspended for three games and fined £100,000 for using Spanish insults on social media. In 2019, Bernardo Silva (Manchester City) was suspended for one game and fined £50,000 for racist abuse of fellow Benjamin Mendy over social media messages. In 2016, Andre Gray (then Burnley) was suspended for four games and fined £25,000 for expressing homosexuality.
