'Monster defender' Kim Min-jae (28, Bayern Munich) has set a new European Champions League (UCL) record.
Statistics company 'Opta' announced on the 7th (Korea Standard Time) that Kim Min-jae made the most passes among players with a 100% pass success rate in a single UCL game. It is based on the 2003-2004 season when 'Opta' started counting until this season.
Kim Min-jae attempted 113 passes in the fourth round of the 2024-2025 UCL League phase against Benfica at Allianz Arena in Munich, Germany, showing off an amazing success rate that accurately delivered all 113 times to his teammates.
Although Munich led the game with a 7-3 share and overwhelming share, it is quite surprising that he played full-time for 90 minutes and never made a pass miss.
He sent the most passes to left-back Alfonso Davies with 24, 16 to midfielder Jozua Kimihi and 12 to winger Jamal Musiala. There were only four back passes for goalkeeper Manuel Neuer. He continued to try forward passes and played a role as a starting point for the build-up.
Kim Min-jae also tried his trademark long-distance conversion pass four times and succeeded four times.

The pass success rate is the highest among players who have succeeded more than 50 passes in the entire UCL so far. Leipzig midfielder Kevin Campl has 98%, Manchester City defender John Stones has 97.5%, Kim Min-jae partner Dayot Upamecano has 97%, and Lee Kang-in's colleague Marquignos (PSG) has 96.5%.
The number of pass successes is the fourth highest after Pacho (PSG, 383), Marquignos (368), and Kimihi (366).
The defensive stat, which is 'main task', is also outstanding. He is ranked ninth in the ball recovery (30), which brings back the ball. In the match against Benfica, he showed a solid performance with six tackles and a 100% success rate of ground-contention (6 successes). In particular, he blocked the opponent's counterattack with quick judgment of the situation and bold physical fight.

Munich's defense, led by Kim Min-jae, won four consecutive scoreless games after the match against Barcelona, following Bochum (5-0 win), Mainz (4-0 win), and Union Berlin (3-0 win).
Munich, which had earlier fallen to the bottom after losing to Aston Villa (0-1 loss) and Barcelona (1-4 loss), won 1-0 in the 22nd minute of the second half with Jamal Musiala's first goal and scored six points to jump to 17th place, the knockout phase playoff spot.
